We just don't understand each other, Amex!

This is a question about the Amex pop up.

A little back story: July 2021 I applied for the BCP and was approved for $5k SL. After 63 days I applied for a 3X CLI and was instantly approved for $15k, so assuming Amex likes me. In the 5 months I've had the card I've put $17k through it, always PIF. This is my first and only Amex I've ever had.

So last week I get an email invite to apply for the Gold card. When I went to the Amex site, the SUB offer was the same as in the email so not sure why a special code was in the email. At this point I'm not interested in the Gold so didn't apply.

Yesterday I was looking at Amex hotel cards and saw a SUB for 200k points on the Hilton Surpass. I couldn't resist so I applied...and got the pop up. IMO, none of the reasons stated in the pop up applied to me so I was perplexed. I wasn't upset, didn't lose any sleep, BUT then tonight I get the Gold card invite email again! Is Amex trying to push me into one of their high AF cards? Curious if I would still get the pop up being they sent me the email before and after the Hilton app pop-up.

What popup are you talking about? The "NO SUB For You, click through if you still want to apply anyway" popup?

If you want the Surpass card, I would call them and try to find out why you should be getting the no-SUB-for-you popup.

I did call and the CSR said the pop up explains the reason. I told her it's a generic response and not one of them applies to me. She was super nice but said she could give me no information.
