Discover new CLI page

Discover just changed the CLI webpage, now it just ask for income, employer and housing, before making a decision. If a HP is needed then the next page will ask for your phone and ask for your approval.

Even my DW that the option was never available they let her ask for an increase. Both of us required a HP at this time, we didn't allow it.

Opened Discover in 09/14 with a 3300 CL. Fico scores were in the 760ish range, but I was only an AU on a single card, but had positive closed mortgage/car loans. No real history in regards to revolvers. I was very understanding of the low limit and especially since I knew Discover's conservative background. The phone option has never been available for me and I was not able to request a CLI from the website until December. Denied in December. I requested 10k total and was not countered. It took about two weeks for the request credit limit increase link to work again - just came available today. I noticed right off the verbiage had changed; it indicated that a credit check may be required but would not be completed without approval. When entering data into the prompts, it no longer asked how much I would like to request, it just asked for my income and employer name. I provided and hit submit. Received the below response;

We have received your credit line increase request. Decisions are typically made within two business days.

Well, I sort of got paranoid with this new wording and decided to fire off a chat request. Rep gave me a number to call to verify. Called and the rep listened to my speil and said, I will be more than happy to check and it will in fact only be a SP. I said sure, let's DO IT! She said I am able to increase your CL to 6300. I said thanks! A 3,000.00 increase from Discover with a SP is just a great way to start your day!

Thank you, now I know what to expect when a CLI is approved, the page asking for your phone number and to allow the pull is not shown, only what you reported.

Before they asked more questions, like why you want an increase, employer's phone number, what limit you want... It looks like they changed to the simpler version used by the phone system.

Congrats. Wonders if they will change their policy on low SL's when I apply next fall, winter?

Yes, apparently if the CLI can not be approved with a SP, you apparently see what the OP stated - a request for a HP. I am not sure what would have happened, if I would have waited. It just said a response would be provided within 2 business days. I was calling just to make sure it was not a HP, but when the rep said she could take care of it, I went for it.

I dunno if there has been a policy change in regards to limits, but I was surprised to see a 3k increase from Discover. My TU score is 763, which is what I believe Discover always spends - my TU is always displayed on my statements.

Weird... so I tried this just to see if I'd get the HP message. I didn't.. immediately says they'll let me know in 2 days. I immediately get an e-mail saying my request is pending. We shall see...

+1 This was my exact experience. I called 1-800-347-4856 right after and that's when the rep said she could take care of it. I would call them now and try, as it sounds like you are about to receive a CL increase!

I just received a 3.5k SP CLI so I'm just gonna wait it out. Thanks for bringing me back to what you said in the original post. Don't know why I didn't remember your post. Bad brain! Discover loves me though.. all I've ever gotten from them has been SP CLIs. Congrats to you on your's today!

I think the new system is easier and more clear about the SP and HP. I hope next month my DW gets a CLI, she is stuck at $500 since 02/14

Wife went from 3k to 7k CL last month by calling. She always had the call to request CLI before today so I tried and they want to pull a hard so I canceled it. I figure since she just got a CLI with them they would deny and did not want to waste the inquiry.

Does it say this always before asking if a HP will be done? I clicked the increase tab and at the bottom it says "After reviewing your application, we may need to pull a credit bureau report, which may affect your credit score. In these cases, we will proceed with the application only with your consent." will it send me to a page asking if it will be ok to pull or is it a automatic HP if this message is displayed?

I had the exact message, clicked on the submit button and receive that notification that I would have an answer within 2 business days. Shortly after I received an email with the same verbiage. If the SP option is not available, you will be notified/prompted for a HP.

Instead of waiting up to 2 business days, I called in after I submitted and a rep was able to approve my request with a SP.

I almost thought people were kidding. My CLI page has never worked ever and now I'm logging on and I actually see a real CLI page.

Just tried it right now and got declined but I don't think any HP was done.

Whoa. She was able to get an increase even after she got an increase on her card? I need to try that to see if I can get a good rep that can get my card to like $3k or something.

I tried it. They wanted an HP. I said no way even though TU HP are next to worthless for me.
