Because I get 1.5% on the Quicksilver, I just don't have enough of a justification to go for the Double Cash. Also the QS has no foreign transaction fees. I'm tempted to travel just because I won't pay extra and it's been over a year and 1/2 since my last trip out-of-the- us.

Citi is OK, IMO the majority of their cards are very "meh". They have a dining card, the Thank You Preferred to make you think you're getting 2x but it really only works out to 1% once you redeem.

Their Double Cash isn't too bad. 2% across the board. You could use for dining and general spend to cover gaps from your other cards. It's not the easiest thing to get approved for though and they are giving low limits and bad APRs compared to credit scores for the majority of people. It is 1% as you buy, and 1% as you pay it off. If you PIF it is 2% basically, if you carry a balance it simply takes longer to get your full 2%. It's a good general spending card. As a warning, it's been hotly debated as to whether this would ever happen, but Citi loves nerfing and discontinuing their cards. Basically none of their current lineup of cards have been left untouched for long. They are always removing benefits and discontinuing things entirely. Just something to consider. They love to mess with their products, and often.

Instead of Double Cash though, I have and recommend Quicksilver. 1.5% across the board, posted instantly to your account, no FTF if that's important to you (I Don't really care because it never applies to me, but is still nice). Capital One is good with routine CLI's and growth. People do complain about them but I have honestly never had a problem I wasn't able to solve with them. They also do reduce APR upon request (not just like magic, but they will consider it) unlike some lenders who basically leave you stuck. Quicksilver's rewards are awesome because you can redeem at any point, any amount, no restrictions, whereas many cards (double cash included) you have to wait until you reach $25 or whatever threshold. Quicksilver is a great card. Cap1 tends to leave their cards the same for much longer periods.

Chase Amazon Visa, which I have, is 3% Amazon, which is nice, but the thing I like most is the 2% dining and drugstores. These categories are rarely offered on a no-AF card. You didn't mention if you cared about paying an AF but in general unless you spend a lot and are planning on large purchases, AF cards aren't worth it if you aren't using them for travel benefits etc. This is just my opinion, others will disagree and say cards like Chase Sapphire Preferred (also 2% dining) are worth the AF. Depends on your spend level.

For travel, again, there are no AF and AF options. Barclay Arrival is a no AF option. 2x on dining and travel, but only worthwhile redeeming against travel expenses. Still, a nice card to have for the occasional travel. Consider it basically a category card, it is useless to use outside of dining and travel IMO. They have an AF version of Arrival, which is 2x across the board, but again, the redemption is really only worthwhile against travel expenses. On your spending level, I suspect you'd do better to have the Arrival, just for the occasional traveling. It works out to 2.2% when redeemed against travel which isn't bad.

Citi double cash is pretty great.

Do you travel at all? US Airways has a 50k bonus after first purchase right now, Ritz has 140k after 3k spend, marriott has 70k after 2k spend, southwest has 2 cards with 50k signup bonuses (that get you very close to a companion pass), 50k PRG offer floating around.

Lot of good bonuses out right now.

Just IMO they didn't sound like the type of traveler who will benefit from a hotel branded card. Those have AF (Some of them have a HEFTY annual fee like Ritz) and really only benefit people who are heavy travellers. Travel didn't sound like a priorioty, leading me to believe they don't do it much.

Of course I could be dead wrong and they are nice cards, but they're not worth it for everyone

Depending on your score, you are more likely to get a higher line with Quicksilver vs Double Cash. People are getting lower limits/worse APRs than expected with Double Cash. Across the board, almost everyone. Of course, neither is a guarantee

Chase Freedom is similar to Discover IT if your looking for something like that. although it might be wise to wait a little closure to 1 full year of history to apply for Chase

TYP gives full value for some redemptions but not all. Statement credit for example is only half value. Hence your supposed 2x category is really 1 percent and the 1 percent is half a percent. You shouldn't have to care what you're redeeming for to get the full value of the 2x that they advertise. IMO the 2x is basically false advertising and the card is worthless but YMMV
