Has anyone recently tried getting a CLI from Cap1 and been denied for an outdated "score that isn't high enough"? When I look at the denial letter, the scores are 2 months behind and do not match or come close to the scores I have under MyFico. The source they're pulling from, assuming directly, is from Equifax and even when I check Equifax, the numbers aren't close. This has been going on for the past 6 month (after waiting 6 months before for a new CLI) and it's always showing 2 months behind when at the time I've applied.

Anyone else going through this or something similar?

Imo ones credit score with Cap One is not why one gets a cli from C1 if they can even pry one loose. They want heavy spend so unless you are spending very heavy a 2 month old credit score shouldnt really impact their decision to give a cli.

I'll try to see if I can chat with someone about that. Cap1 has made so many changes that I may just get the run arounds when it comes to CLI. But hey, it's worth a try! Thanks!

I definetly use the cards that I'm trying to get a CLI on. I use to get those old denial messages back in the day about not utilizing the card or not paying over the minimum. Since I stepped up my credit game, I as getting increase right on schedule but now it just seems like it's just stopping ot lagging behind- maybe due to some unmentioned changes from Cap1

Yeah, I saw and read over the older posts and was just wondering if it was happening to anyone currently. Seems to be the same but around the time those posts were made, I really didn't have an issue with getting CLIs (outside of doing the before the 3-6 month waiting period). Just thought this was odd, becasue it's been going on for a while now, just waiting for the scores to catch up

Capital one uses score from last account review, those are done every 4 months.

You can see on your CR when they performed last one.

You shouldn't worry about the last score they pulled, 650 or 850 makes no difference to them, especially if you got one of their lost cause (in terms of growth) starter cards.

I've been dealing with this for the last six weeks. I keep getting denied a limit increase due to low score, but the score they're pulling is from June (it's now August). I have called customer service twice and they are unbelievebly unhelpful. It's not because they don't care, but they are trained on being vague. When I asked when my next account review is, all they can say is "it's periodical". They just tell me to keep requesting a limit increase from time to time. Meanwhile, I have had a lot of fraudulant activity on my account, so I do not want my credit unfrozen.

Why treat your customers like this?

They just did the same thing to me yesterday. My credit score according to Equifax is 831. According to Experian it's 827. According to Transunion it's also 827. I applied for a credit line, increase with zero debt, and they referred to a two month old Equifax report that said my credit was 609. No collections, lates or missed payments ever and out of 170,000 I'm available credit, only owing 300 (which had actually already been paid off). They cited, "low credit score" as the reason. When I looked at the detailed report, it had an indication that they had pulled credit from 60 days prior, and had a 609 as a credit score. I didn't even apply for credit until I had checked my credit bureaus and was well into the 800s. But capital one fails to disclose that they go back 60 days because they know that people pay off their credit cards and see their credit score go up and try and get more credit. I think it's totally criminal in scandalous. Capitol One sucks ass.

@Anonymous wrote:

@Anonymous wrote:

Has anyone recently tried getting a CLI from Cap1 and been denied for an outdated "score that isn't high enough"? This has been going on for the past 6 month (after waiting 6 months before for a new CLI) and it's always showing 2 months behind when at the time I've applied.

Anyone else going through this or something similar?

Similar experience here - was also told by an account supervisor that the reporting is 'periodic' and to just keep requesting a CLI every few months. Crazy to think that they don't have a better system for this.

ALSO...AND THEY COULD BE SUED FOR THIS ONE...Capitol 1 fraudulently promotes the false idea that your credit score is better than it actually is or "really good" by supposedly using you Transunion Credit Report to determine your Creditwise online credit score. For this scoring they are utilizing TransUnion's Vantage Score 3.0 which they use to constantly message you updates about to encourage you to apply for other cards and increases.

However, Capitol One uses Experian FICO SCORE 8 to actually determine your application credit score....and they allow themselves to go back in your scoring history as far as 6 months (seeking the lowest score result). That is only disclosed after they deny you and issue a decline for "credit score is too low".

So they promote one scoring model, which is your current score using Vantage 3.0 model, but determine your application based on your Fico Score 8 (used by Experian) and going back 2-6 months to determine what your lowest score was during that time-frame... Talk about rigging the deck!

WHAT THEY DO NOT TELL YOU: THEY DEDUCT POINTS INSTANTLY AND INCREASE POINTS AT MUCH SLOWER RATE.

Example: If you have 5,000 credit limit card and use 3,000 for a puchase. You will get a notice within 48 hours that my score has decreased. Pay the card off...it will take 1-2 months to get the credit payment applied and see your score increasing.

THE MOST DISTURBING AND UNFAIR PART OF THE ENTIRE SCAM: There is nobody you can appeal it with...there is an "appeal process" in name only...it does not actually exist in any meaningful way and is there only for legal cover.

That is if it reported that way after statement date. Just charging a card before a statement date doesnt do a thing to scores. Its been know for yrs CAp1 uses old scores. Nothing new. All decisions by Cap1 are computer software drive, No CSR and really no one can go against it. Its not a scam. Its how they operate.
