So, I'm having an issue when applying for credit cards. My home doesn’t have a physical address. I live in a guest house and the physical address is to the main house full of people I don't know. I'm not even sure if they speak English. It’s a house of like 8 college age foreign people. Anyway most cc apps do not allow a PO Box as an address. Is their anyway to get around this? Should I put the address of the post office and then my box number as unit or something?

You should take note of your street address.

Who collects your/the mails at your guest house?.

You have to inform the person incharge to give your mails to you. What were your arrangements until now?

Do you rent (have rental agreement) or is this place a temporary thing?

Talk to your landlord about the foreign students/your situation if they are not helping you with the mails.

You must get things in order before you go into liabilities like credit cards. Take care-!!!!

I have lived here 2 years. The post office is only 1/4 mile from my house on a county road so its very close. I've always had a P O Box. No mailbox at my house at all, like on the property. As far as the post office is concerned my house dose not exist. When I moved in the landlord told me I would have to use a PO BOX.

Are you able to verify your address with USPS? (system)

You can try with that address & apply for CC's.

Ask your Post Office for your regular address (not your P O BOX) or have them furnish you with one.

You can discuss this problem with the USPS & they may be able to help you.

(i-e: what address you put on the change of address form when you moved in)

Unless you live in a very remote area of the country, there has to be a physical street, road or rural route address. Especially for 911 emergency services. Does the landlord pay property taxes? The address would be on there.

I have a similar situation, but without the foreign college students! You can put both your street address and the PO box address on your apps, then specify that your card and any mail be send to the PO addy.

The lack of a "good" street address may mean you have to call in for verifications and will never get instant approvals, but otherwise I've found it's harmless.

You probably should make some sort of accommodation with the people in the main house, just so that they'd know to give your mail to you if something does get sent there, or possibly the PO could assign a different address to the guest house (123A Smith Street vs 123 Smith Street). In a small town sometimes they can be helpful about these situations where a larger PO would just go bureaucratic on you. Otherwise, just try what I suggest above and you should be fine.

You should check with the post office and see if they can provide you with an address to use. I have been getting notices in my PO Box for the last couple of years that pretty much says they have a way to accept packages/mail for you that needs a physical address adn they give you a notification through your PO box. I think it's called everyday delivery or something like that.

I feel like apps these days ask if you have a different "Mailing Address" than Physical address and should be no issue, especially if your credit report shows the PO box as a verified address for you it won't even raise a flag I bet.

Just out of curiosity, is that PO Box address on your driver's license/state ID? Also, what address is on your credit reports? If the PO Box is on your reports, you shouldn't have trouble using it for CC apps.

You're not allowed, per the Patriot Act, to use PO Boxes on credit applications. Been that way since just after 9/11

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that (I've never used a PO Box).

I put both my street addy and my PO addy on my apps. I also (on the advice of the people at the post office) use the zip + four zipcode, which points straight at my PO box. That way, since there is no household mail delivery in my area, if someone addresses mail to my street address, the PO ladies can see which box to put it in.

OP, that might be another solution for you, if the zip + four codes in your area are tied to PO boxes. I know the + four doesn't work that way in large cities, but it does in my small town. In any case, I suggest you ask your local PO if they have tips for you or can give the guesthouse its own distinct address in any way.

That makes sense. I should have said that you're not to use a PO box as your sole address

My ID is to my dads house in Michigan where I register all my cars and receive y property tax bill but I have never actually lived their just keep that address because I go to school outline for a school in Michigan and it allows me to save a lot of money that way. The address on my credit reports is an address that I have no lived art in 5-6 years. They have no updated them in that long. But I'm registered on my credit report subscription with my current PO BOX so I'm hoping they will catch on. Its a mess. Capital one seemed to figure it out but it blew Barclays mind when I called in.

Good ideas in this thread. Was able to get my state to include my physical and PO Box address on my state driver's license which really helped too.
