Chase CSP or Cap1 Venture

Ive been getting targeted ads for the Venture also email offers for the Venture, but nothing for the CSP. If im on the radar for the Venture card would that mean fair game for the CSP ?

Chase and Capital One are two very different institutions. So to answer your question, no just because you might qualify for a Venture has no bearing in your chances for the CSP. You can login into your Chase and account and look under the menu for the option "Just For Me". These are preapproved offers for you. Looking at your current cards listed in your signature, your credit limits may be on the low end for a CSP approval.

As far as your credit score and report, they're similar in what they require as a baseline, but there's other factors to consider. The companies have different rules and restrictions that may still affect your ability to apply for one or the other, for instance Chase's 5/24 rule.

I'm currently at 4/24, I have a banking relationship with Chase and a car loan through Capital One. That's why I'm caught in between them.

As you're already at 4/24, like mentioned previously, double check to see if Chase shows you the CSP in the "Just for Me".

Keep in mind that with the CSP you would be able to transfer your points earned with your Freedom Unlimited and have a nice little setup for only $95 of AF. Might be worth waiting a couple more months for Chase to show you the CSP pre-approval.

@Mdowning30 - As @GatorGuy pointed out, they are both different institutions. Others think this too. For example, Adam at Proudmoney.com did a video in 2020 where he listed what he thought were the 16 easiest to hardest credit card lenders to get approved from, and he ranked CapitalOne as one of the easiest at 12th place, and Chase as 5th hardest. If that is true, and taking your current signature stats into consideration, you may have better luck right now with the Venture ... good luck

I dont have any pre approvals for the CSP, although i did before i applied for my CFU. I've seen "very good" approval odds for the Venture on Credit Karma. I know thats not saying much but its something to go off of. Im in no rush i know the 80K bonus is about to end for the CSP, i believe the 100K will come back.

1. Actually that's (CK) not saying much at all. CK gets PAID to push those cards so if you're breathing they'll tell you you have Good-Excellent chances when in fact they have no idea at all if you'll be approved or not.

2. Leave Credit Karma alone. With the exception of it giving you access as a SP to your TU and EQ reports, there's nothing else good about them really in the Rebuild/Build process other than giving you a HUGE ballpark score that could be off as much as 50 points in either direction.

Hands down I'd consider Chase the much better option for a card. BUT I think once they see your recent approvals you'll be hard pressed to get an approval from them right now as they'll see you as credit seeking. That's probably why you didn't get a Pre-Approval offer. I know you go against our advice lol but Garden for 6 months and let the new accts age a bit and get some use and PIF history on them. Then reconsider applying.

Like i said im not in a rush, although i do plan on traveling in the next 2 months. As you can see you were telling me that i shouldnt apply for anything and i didnt have a good chance of approvals for the cards i was seeking, yet I got 2 instant approvals with $8000 in extra credit. Im grateful for what i have and happy that went against the grain. I absorb everyones advice.

@Mdowning30 I just watched it. He didn't compare the protections in detail, but otherwise pretty thorough comparison. For Auto Rental primary CSP vs secondary Venture, Purchase Proteciton 120 days CSP vs 90 days Venture, Trip Cancel / Baggage Delay / Trip Delay CSP vs none on Venture. I didn't realize he had posted a video on this so thanks for the heads up!

My Amex has Premium Car Rental coverage for a flat rate, but thats about it. I know the CSP does have better travel insurance.

AmEx auto rental collision insurance is secondary (in the US - just like most "secondary" coverage), unless you are talking about paying extra for insurance. But regarding their included insurance, even AmEx Platinum is secondary, AND AmEx doesn't cover Italy! So if you are ever planning a nice Italian vacation or domestic, you better use something other than AmEx when you rent a car ... unless you want to pay extra ...

I've thought the same about the CSP 100K SUB, but you shouldn't expect that to come back. From looking into it, the hefty SUB was more so due to the times when the world, especially us here in the States, were clawing our way back out of the pandemic.

No, not at all.

And getting targeted ads and a "very good" notification on Credit Karma are no indication you would be approved for the Venture, either.

If I were you I would wait until my profile had improved.
