AMEX “apply with confidence”

So when I log into my amex account, this new feature doesn't show up for me.

When I use a private browser, the apply with confidence feature does pop up.

I currently have an amex delta platinum card, but have been eyeballing the regular Platinum card for a few weeks now.

Went ahead and did the application in the private browser without logging in, and it says I'm approved for the card. Haven't finished the application though because I'm still contemplating it.

I guess my 2 questions are:

I just barely got approved for the delta card about 5-6 weeks ago. I'm a little surprised they'd approve me for a platinum card so soon, although i am new to amex, so not sure the general rules for applying for new cards. Has anyone applied for a new card without logging in to your account? Kind of strange way to do it, at least for me it is.

And secondly, the bonus offer I see is for 100k membership points. I have a refereral link for 150k points that someone sent me. I'm a little tempted then to just apply via the referel link and not the "apply with confidence" route. If I'm already approved, I'm assuming i wont not get approved?

I'm getting a little greedy, i know lol. But the more rewards points, the better.

Amex basically has one requirement for approval.

1. Applicant must have a pulse.

Note: even that is a soft rule.

You'd probably be approved for the Platinum.

Not even close... Amex can be quite picky with approvals. Especially if they were previously burned in BK or with a CO. But they don't seem to be very inquiry sensitive.

OP, I'm not very familiar with that new "Apply With Confidence" thing, but I'd venture a guess that you'd likely be approved as long as your profile hasn't changed too much in the last 5-6 weeks. The Platinum is a charge card with a hefty AF whereas your Delta is a normal revolving credit card. Charge cards generally have easier UW requirements.

1. Believe it or not, it's easier to get the Amex charge cards than it is to get the credit cards, so if you were approved for the Delta card, you would probably be approved for the platinum card, especially in view of their signalling to you that you're preapproved.

2. You shouldn't get the platinum card unless you travel a lot by air; if you don't travel a lot by air, it's a big waste of money. If you do travel a lot by air, evaluate it carefully in terms of what you're getting for your money.

3. If you decide you want it, do play around until you check out and can evaluate the various SUB offers. I saw a 150k SUB offer the other day which required a $15,000 spend.
