@KanesInferno wrote:

Questions for those with experiences with WF for the Active Cash and Reflect cards.

I recently got approved for the Reflect card (waiting on it in the mail). I do also want the Active Cash, how long should I wait before applying for that card as well? I'm not wanting to waste a hard pull if it'll just result in a denial since I got just approved for that card.

Also, if I apply too soon I'm assuming I won't get the SUB for the Active Cash card since I got the promo period of 0% APR for the Reflect card?

Any help is appreciated.

I just saw this, and I'm surprised no one has reponded yet to your question about the SUB.

Here's what WF says on their T&C page for the Reflect:

You may not be eligible for introductory annual percentage rates, fees, and/or bonus rewards offers if you opened a Wells Fargo Credit Card within the last 15 months from the date of this application and you received introductory APR(s), fees, and/or bonus rewards offers - even if that account is closed and has a $0 balance.

So it looks like the answer is that you probably wouldn't qualify for either the SUB or even the introductory 15 months of 0% APR for the Active Cash until 15 months has passed. After 15 months, you could sign up for Active Cash (or whatever other card WF is offering with a nice SUB) and get that SUB, while still enjoying 6 more months of 0% APR on your Reflect. Getting that additional 6 months of 0% on the Reflect would be worth it since you probably couldn't transfer any balance you might have on the card to another WF card.

For what it's worth, even though Reflect doesn't have a cash SUB, those additional 6 months of 0% APR could be worth a lot more than $200 for some people.

I like my Active Cash card, but it's not my favorite cash back card. Getting the bonus cash in my WF checking account can only be done in $25 increments, and using it to cover charges in lesser amounts is a clunky experience. I have a much easier time redeeming cash rewards on my Apple Card (which admittedly only gives 2% back for Apple Pay charges) and my Chase Amazon Prime card, which is currently paying me a minimum of 2% after I accepted a targeted promotion to become a Chase checking customer.

Opening up a checking account with WF to appease the wife-to-be and also so I can have access to our joint account when that time comes...does anyone have any feedback with these cards? From what I remember, I've always heard WF is pretty generous with starting limits and im hoping having an account with them will help my chances (as it did with Peoples Bank). I've been rebuilding my credit to where I am finally approaching 700, but i'm still stuck with a few smaller limit cards and would really like to expand my profile with some higher limits.

I'm wondering if I'm better off staying put for now or looking in a different direction for a CC.

I think your on the right track to have a relationship beforehand. I was repeatedly turned down for cc by WF in the past. Did an app in Jan 20, was immediatly rejected. FICO was hovering around 670, util @60% (of $5K) on my only card. Couldn't help it, was financing grad classes on it and my paycheck.

Fast forward to summer and WF are sending me an invite for Active Cash every 3 weeks. FICO 705 with a CO (paid off), late payments on SL, and 6 HPs. Income is just at $100K. Pulled the trigger in Dec and was approved for $8K, 15mo 0%, 24% afterwards. Then they immediatly started with the colorful Reflex envelopes, which I'll take a hard pass on. Holding out for the opportunity to app for a travel card when it comes out.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I've moved almost all of my banking away from them. Only my direct deposit is still with them. I suspect the fact that they can see my income gets factored into the underwrinting (?).

I decided that if things went south the the AC app, I would pull the plug. But apparently whoever is at the helm know seems to be serious abut changing attutudes and attracting customers. WF bought my previous (and 4 previous before them) bank, and decided not to grandfather my account, so the occasional fee charge was irksome to me.

Good luck tho.

B.

Active Cash is a pretty good card, and my starting CL was $4,500. For context, the highest CL I had received up to that point when I applied in 10/2021 was $2,000. I don't have a record of it, but I believe my FICO 8 scores were hovering at just under 700.

I did have a long-term banking relationship with WF, which I'm sure helped.

I'm not thrilled that the cash back only happens in increments of $25, but it eventually adds up when used enough.

The 15-month 0% APR promotion has also come in very handy for balance transfers and managing payments on a couple of larger-investment purchases. And of course, the $200 bonus was also very much appreciated.

So overall, I'm happy with it.

The Active Cash is next on my list. I'm just waiting until early March to apply. Hoping I'll score the x3 CLI on my AMEX to help push the Active Cash card SL up some. I also have about 10 years with WF on my primary checking which I tend to keep a decent balance in at any give time. Maybe that will get some mileage. Scores are around 710 on all 3 so I'm hoping that will be enough. Only issue is short history and only 3 cards (secured Discover last Aug, Cap1 Quicksilver One last Sept. and an AMEX Blue Cash Everyday last Nov.).

@jonblaze24 wrote:

I never heard of WF being very generous with SL or CLIs, the opposite in fact, they have been very conservative. I hope you have better luck, Citi DC (now that they're dropping the minimum to redeem) and some category cards make more sense to me.

What banks do you use? Do any offer SP CLI? That way you could increase the limits without reducing your score with a hard pull.

Paying (except $1) before your statements would increase your chance of a CLI too (and a higher limit) as it would increase your score.

You can most likely include your fiance's income, which would also increase your limits. Many banks let you update income, which can trigger an auto-CLI, even if they don't offer SP CLI.

Good Luck!

FWIW, I just got approved for over 10k. Ficos in the mid/high 700s and 100k stable income. Surprisingly enough, this despite having a prior foreclosure with WF (no longer showing on reports) so it appears they have no internal blacklists.

I read in this forum even people with excellent credit getting rejects.

My experience with how much WF puts into account history when approving credit cards has been mixed, and I'm not really sure how much of a difference it has made for me in getting approved and in setting SLs. I've been a banking customer with them since 2005.

I was declined for a (now-discontinued) Platinum Visa card with them in late winter 2021 after they did a manual review to confirm some information (they never did ask me for additional info). Less than 8 months later, I was approved instantly for the Active Cash at a SL of $4500, with a much better credit profile/scores. My previous highest card at that point was for $2,000.

I suspect that my banking history helped me get the higher SL, although I suspect they may probably would have approved me anyway, possibly at a lower SL. Perhaps my only way to find out would be to take someone from WF out to a bar and hope they handle liquor worse than I do. 🥴

I don't have a record of my FICO scores when I applied for the Platinum, but I believe my VantageScore 3.0s were somewhere in the 630s or below. The fact that I applied in the first place with that kind of unhappy credit profile probably tells you everything you need to know about how much I knew about credit card applications back then.

In contrast, my Experian FICO 9 score around the time I was approved was 689. (The HP was for Experian, and it's my understanding that WF uses F9 for credit card approvals.)

Hi,

Wanted to give my experience about a recent application and this is meant as a data point only for someone looking to apply.

Had Credit score in the 800 mark, comibined household income of 150k with less than 5% utilization.

Have discover, Amex and chase freedom with 30K limits.

Was skeptical at first about the SL as I had read wells fargo was conservative on SL if you do not have a relationship with them. Did not have a relationship with wells fargo, credit card or checking accounts. Had a checking account with them some years back, but closed it within a year of opening.

Decided to apply for it anyway. They only pulled experian and was instantly approved for a 30K SL. Card arrived in about 10 days after approcal. Look like they do try to match the highest limit on other accounts.

Hope this helps someone.

I applied just now after receving a piece of mail saying "you're invited to apply." They provided a reservation number so I decided to pull the trigger. Received immediate notification from EQ that they were checking. Approved for $2K with 599 score and about 4% overall utilization. Prior to pulling the trigger, I had 8 inquiries on EQ (went on crazy app spree--this is the LAST for me). $176 on Cap One card; all else zero balances reporting; total available credit of approximately $20K. Time to sit down on a stool in the garden and chill. Oh, almost forgot to add that I am AU on 4 amex accounts (total available credit = $30K on those). Two baddies that are about 6 years old.
