Amazon card?

I am interested in the Amazon credit card and $200 sign-up bonus, and I want to apply. I just got the Sapphire Reserve a few days ago. I am happy with the card and credit limit, but I am a little scared to apply. Is it too risky to apply for another Chase card this soon? I can't get the store card due to issues with Synchrony Bank. When the Sapphire reports, I will be back at 5/24. I want this card and the Walmart card for groceries, and then I plan to garden for a long time. I did get an amex earlier this year, and I did get a couple of cards last fall. Other than that, my accounts are all older. My scores are around 810. Is it a bad idea to try to get these two cards right now?

Yes its a bad idea because you admitted you'll be back at 5/24, and because Chase doesn't like you to open up accounts/go on sprees after theirs. They've been known to shut down recently approved accounts.

I don't think the risk of losing your CSP is worth trying for an Amazon card.

Is it a bad idea to try to get these two cards right now?

With your outstanding score, I would take a shot at it. According to this article, Chase limits you to 2 cards within a 30-day period, which I read as saying it's ok to get 2 Chase cards within a 30-day period: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/credit-cards/how-long-should-i-wait-between-credit-card-applications/

Yes you'll be at 5/24 but in the last year Chase has been waiving 5/24 like crazy for this particular card: the Chase Amazon Prime Visa. Recent examples:

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Approvals/Approved-for-CHASE-AMAZON-VISA-SIG-OVER-5-24/td-p/6559503

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Approvals/Chase-Amazon-Visa-Approved/td-p/6559577

I'd lean toward agreeing with @SouthJamaica on this one, if you're willing to take the risk of burning 1-2 HPs only to get a denial.

People can and do get approved for 2 x Chase cards within 30 days of each other, even on back-to-back days, and as was pointed out the recent trend is for this card is for some flexibility regarding the 5/24 rule. What may hurt you is that at least 4 of these cards including the Sapphire were acquired less than 12 months ago.

If you go down this path though I would think about holding off applying for any other cards including the Walmart card for at least a few months.

Chase knows you're at 5/24 since the last card you were approved for was with Chase. You won't be pulling anything over on them.

However that doesn't mean you will be denied. People have been approved for this card with more new accounts then you. But it is usually with a pre-approval. As mentioned, all you have to lose is a HP or two.

Chase has declined every application I had in with them when I was right at 5/24. Not over, but at! Now I'm under again I was approved for the Quest card from United.

While there has been some people approved above or at 5/24, I think that Chase still stands by that rule (although some reps will deny it even exists). One agent told me she could see the cards at 5/24 and when I would go under that number BUT...she could do nothing to override that decision, nor could a supervisor.

some people will always get through the cracks but I don't think it's Chases standard M.O. a few years back they went on a new account shutdown spree with people falling under 5/24, applying for another Chase card, then other issuers right after Chase approved them. So, while it might be an unwritten rule, I still think Chase stands by it and I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my relationship with them.

I got the Amazon Prime card last June and followed up by getting 5 more credit cards, not even counting becoming an authorized user on two of my wife's credit cards as well and it definitely didn't cause anything bad to happen with Chase, in fact, they gave me a 25% credit line increase instead. I think if he has a solid credit score he will be just fine.

How long did you wait between the chase card and the other cards?

FNBO Evergreen beginning of July but then I had a little gap. Citi Custom Cash followed in September, Affinity in December, AOD in January (even though we applied for it just before Christmas, they took their sweet time, but well worth it), and then Lowes just last month. So I guess as long as you have gaps like that it is ok? Are we talking 5 cards in a week? I guess that could really spook a bank.
