Walmart Cap One Pre-Approval Denial (Confused...)

Okay, so I ran a pre-approval using the Walmart Card preapproval link.. got denied for "too many delinquent past or present Capital One credit obligations".

I'm sorry, what?

I currently have 2 CapOne cards (a regular platinum and a quicksliver). Greens across the 24mo history, both show 'none reported' as far as worst delinquency on record.

I also have 1 closed CapOne account on my credit report (Opened 11/2012, Closed 04/2014, greens across the 24mo history, worst delinquency also shows none reported.

I have no other CapOne cards or store accounts. Does it seem to anyone else like sometimes CapitalOne's AI system has been dropped on it's head a few too many times? It's like the system decides "Ehhhhh... we just don't like this guy right now.." and picks a denial reason at random.

Beats the heck out of me what that's all about. I'm sure you've delved into your 3 reports trying to see if something unknown was lurking you didn't know about. Some cardholders of theirs have run into all sorts of comeback replies with various excuse lines.

Yeah, I definitely have! Since I've been trying to build credit I've been paying for myFICO premier so I can access all 3 major bureaus reports & scores monthly.. there's definitely nothing negative with my CapOne accounts that I can find.

The only thing that might even be remotely related is that I did have a CapOne credit card payment (ACH transaction) returned NSF about two years ago, which I immediately remedied and re-submitted the payment. The payment was processed and applied to the account before it reached it's due date. CapOne did however stop immediately updating my available balance when I make payments. It's now delayed by ~7 days until the ACH clears. Previously it applied it to the available balance right away.

That wasn't an actual delinquency though.. so who knows!

I do have requests in with the smaller secondary bureaus (CoreLogic, Innovis, etc) for copies of my reports and just waiting on them to arrive via snail mail.

Hopefully the denial disclosure reveals something when it arrives. Until then I'm thoroughly confused.

Now Amex will ding you on CLIs if you have a NSF with them, but they state that reason not the wording you received from cap one .

The worst part about the NSF was that it wasn't that I was actually lacking funds.. I had my pay being direct deposited into my savings account and was logging in weekly to transfer needed funds to my checking. I simply failed to transfer the funds to cover that payment that was being debited from the checking. It NSF'ed on the checking with ~$4800 sitting in the saving account... I seriously wanted to bash my face off my desk over my own stupidity.

Still a year or two away from opening an AMEX.. but hey, at least now I know.. no NSF's..

I've heard they do give random reasons for denials so you can take them with a grain of salt until you get an actual denial letter with the listed reasons. But ooof I feel your pain b/c I've been there done that with the bank transfer thing; it was my cell phone bill. As a result, I reversed my direct deposit and it now hits my checking instead of my savings and I set up an auto transfer the day after my direct deposit hits my checking to go to my savings for my designated monthly saved amount and then anything leftover when my next check hits also gets moved over to savings.

(Mod cut, not here, please. Please be mindful of the myFICO Forums TOS@WED321) I had the same thing populate when I tried a pre-approval for the Venture - my only Capital One card is a Savor with a $25k limit, never late, no deliquencies: nothing. I searched high and low and pulled full reports from all three bureaus and could not find a single thing. I called Capital One and they confirmed that I didn't have any defaults or fraudulant accounts. Yet, still, I get the same message.

they only have one lounge currently and the benefits mostly overlap many other card products. I can wait until they figure out the computer virus or software glitch or whatever the hell is causing that message to pop up.
