Paypal Cashback MC denial. Recon?

My wife has just been denied the Paypal cashback Master card. We don't understand why. Is there any way to get it reconsidered?

Over the last several years I've seen I think 1, maybe 2 posts where someone said they were able to get a Synchrony card denial (the PayPal Cashback MC is issued and underwritten by Synchrony) overturned by essentially following up by being respectfully yet persistently vocal with their Executive Office. That type of approach is really the only way to try to possibly make it happen as Synchrony's approval process is entirely automated and they don't have a true reconsideration capability like for example Chase/AMEX/BarclayUS where it's a straightforward process to have an analyst manually review the application and override the denial.

Yeah a recon would be a pretty hard sale with SYNC. Side note, last month I received a Preapproved Offer in the mail from them for this very card but didn't act on it as I'm in the Garden plus I already have several high limit SYNC cards and I don't want to awake that sleeping bear they can be.

And the denial was not related to identity verification? That profile should have been approved based on other data points I've seen.

I am not sure what the reason is. I need to wait for their denial letter.

Might be a sign of the record jump in credit card debt. Sync has what 150 store cards per say? And they've tightened up the purse strings. CLI's may be harder to get soon too.

I just received the denial letter. It says, "Number of authorized user tradelines". Actually my wife is an authorized user of 6 of my cards.

How many cards can I have as an authorized user?

Hi,

My wife is an authorized user on 6 of my credit cards. Recently she applied for Paypal cashback mastercard and was denied because of too many authorized user tradelines.

To be on the safe side how many cards someone can have as an authorized user?

I've not seen that denial reason come up before. There's no limit, but it sounds like maybe they are inferring that she has a very high ratio of authorized user accounts in relation to her own primary accounts?

Actually she has no primary account yet on her credit report. Is there any way for recon?

Except in cases of identity verification being needed, Synchrony is widely reported to not reconsider applications at all. It would probably be better for her to establish credit by other means first and reapply at a later date if that card is desired.

Recon is being addressed in the other thread you started on this topic, I will merge them as these are basically identical threads.

With that said, recon isn't happening. You can try, Synchrony will not budge

Your spouse needs account (s) of her own, so that's what she should focus on.

She can try lenders like Discover, if they don't approve unsecured card, secured card is perfectly fine to get her started.

She can also try whichever financial institution she banks with. Being AU only is not helping her with her credit and her future

I'm sorry for her denial but there's no way for them to see her spending habits because she's basically using your credit report.

They want to see her own trade lines.

Having said that I thought authorized user accounts don't come up as authorized user accounts that's exactly why they're supposed to work in your favor.

My question was would be how do they know she's an authorized user. The only company that should be aware of that is the company that actually has that particular card.

Prime example of riding the AU train until the end... personally I've never understood how being an AU on someone else's card would help my credit because I wouldn't be legally responsible for the account so how can I get a positive credit file from something I'm not legally responsible to pay?

"Authorized User" will be listed on the Responsibility line of your credit reports. Anyone with access to your credit report will know that an AU does not have primary responsibility for the account.

Let's start with the obvious, this is a married couple here, not someone who bought a tradline. When finances are shared, there is hardly some train to be ridden.

As to why, if you take some time before posting, you'd come up with a few possibilities, such as a young couple where one didn't start yet, maybe one had credit in the past but became credit invisible since, maybe they need to rebuild from scratch so no active tradelines.

There are many reasons why someone would only have AU accounts, and those accounts serve a purpose. There is a time when person should get their own, but there is also a time to refrain from judgemental posts about a situation you/me/rest of us know very little.

I just received a denial to open PPMC for my wife with exactly the same wording. What nonsense! I have 15 credit lines, and, of course, I added my wife as an authorized user to almost every card. She herself has 2 credit cards open (and I am an authorized user on them). We got immediate decline and the letter says: NUMBER OF AUTHORIZED USER TRADELINES. I could not even think that this could be the reason for some bank, after all, this is not a stranger, but a wife!

AU's arent always married couples. Could be anyone. Yeah last name maybe the same. On paper could be a young adult. Since you have vice versa AU on all accounts except the 2 she has. May have set some flags off. To a lender what if it was a young family member that ran the cards up, you didnt know until its too late that it wasnt you? They're covering their investment of approval. Times are different now. Much tighter than it used to be. JMO. I could see a couple AU accounts on everyday use cards. But all of them? Both ways? Might want to go single owner for future apps. Could have been a blessing in disguise.
