We just closed on our first home, but we need to pay for a few purchases and renovations. I'm hoping to get a credit increase on one or more cards.

This is super long, so, in case you want to skip ahead, I marked with emojis:

💳 Anywhere Credit Cards/Accounts

🛍 Store Limited Cards

📊 FICO Scores as of 03/10/23

🧐 Credit History Details

I never really cared to raise my credit limits very high before, except to maintain a low percentage of utilization, but it would be nice to have a higher limit so:

A. We could afford appliances or renovations outside the reach of our remaining available cash if the option to split the bill isn't available; we could use credit, pay the cash amount back immediately and the rest over time.

B. We may be able to keep our utilization acceptable despite these new expenses. By we, I mean myself and my fiancé who is the co-owner. He is an authorized user on many of my cards.

Below, I am providing all of my credit cards and their current limits as well as my FICO 8 and FICO Bankcarb 8 scores from today, 03/10/23. I added details from my report in case that may change what banks are likely to approve an increase. If you've looked into raising your credit limit with any of the banks I have, which do you feel was most open to doing so, or which do you think is the best option? I'm trying to avoid multiple hard inquiries, and I'm not sure who uses a hard vs. soft pull for an increase.

💳 "Anywhere" Credit Cards/Accounts:

Chase Disney Premier Visa 5.6k

Discover It Chrome 4k

Capital One Quicksilver 2.6k

Synchrony PayPal Credit 1,769 🦌

WebBank PayPal Cash back Mastercard 1.5k

Merrick Bank Mastercard 1.4k

Comenity Card 750 🦌

Chase Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature 500 🦌

Deserve Student 300 🦌

🛍 Store Limited Cards, possibly useful:

Citibank Home Depot Store Card 1.5k

Citibank Best Buy 1.5k

Capital One Walmart Rewards 1.5k

Target 300 🦌

🤷‍♀️Store Limited Cards, probably useless:

Commenity Victoria Secret 1k

Commenity Children's Place 300 🦌

I love my Chase Disney Premier, but I know you need to call on the phone for Chase and I'm a bit anxious 😅

The fact that I need to call to request a CLI makes me feel like I'm going to be aggressively interrogated.

📊FICO scores 03/10/23:

Equifax:

I'd like opinions on what banks/cards I have are best for requesting a decent CLI without adding a ton of hard inquiries.

Thank you for any help.

If you read or skimmed this entire novel, you're the real MVP.

I mean if it's for home use then the first one to look toward should be your home-depot card right? That will be a SP CLI if available.

If you have a Lowes nearby a Synchrony Lowes Advantage card might not be a bad idea. One of the few Sync cards where you don't have to call their credit solutions line for a limit higher than 10k and its SP CLIs up to 35k as I recall.

Wow a 35k Credit limit is very high for a store card isnt it? Lol. I will definitely consider that one... thank you. I had no idea. I dont have a Lowes card, but I am on one as an authorized user and it's in good standing. I assume I would qualify for one if I decide to go that route.

You do not need to call in for a Chase credit line increase. The option is available from the app and website.

So if you are adverse to calling in stay away from Wells Fargo -that's the bank that requires a phone conversation for credit line increases.

Then it's your choice to apply to see if you're approved and take a hp. Your chances of getting approved are good if you pre-qualify. They generally give high limits and you always get 2% back of every purchase, which would be really nice if you're buying appliances and stuff for the house. It's a good quality bank and one that can grow with you over time. CLI's are every four months and pretty decent.
