Selected for Sam's Club World Elite Mastercard Upgrade

I'm confused by synchrony bank. For well over a year I attempted to upgrade my Sam's Store's card to mastercard, but I was always told they have no offer for me. Three weeks ago I was approved for $5,000 Sam's mastercard. Few days ago I get an e-mail saying my store card is being upgraded to the Sam's Mastercard. Does this mean I'm going to have two different Sam's Mastercards? The one I was approved for 3 weeks ago along with the upgraded store card? I was told the store card account would be closed then I would be issued a new account number for the Mastercard.

First, congrats! You can grow that line easily to $15K or more.

Second.. Same thing happened to me with my Care Credit Account card about a year and a half ago. Both of the accounts will show briefly on your account but the Dual Card (Mastercard) will eventually show as the only one open and the other will show closed.

Edited to add: I also had something similar happen with a Sam's Club Mastercard. I was issued one in club with a starting line of $1,700 that was mailed to me, then a month later I called and asked for the photo be added from my club card and resent... I was issued a different account (another Mastercard) for a different amount later that month. Both accounts report on my Transunion bureau ONLY but I do not see the second account on a login.

For years, I also had a SamsClub store card and never got any offers to upgrade. One day, I got a thick letter in the mail. Synchrony had mailed me an unsolicited SamsClub MC. The enclosed letter said that my store card was being converted to a MC. If I wanted to accept the upgrade, simply call the phone number on the card's sticker. If I wanted to remain with the store card, simply cut the MC in half. Becaue I was trying to get to 4/24 at that time, I sadly declined

Thank you everyone for your replies! Synchrony confirmed they shipped out the MasterCard Sam's Club to replace the store card. I will indeed have two Sam's Mastercards. I mostly applied for the first card for the 5% back on gas up to $6,000. Now with 2 Cards I get 5% back on $12,000 of gas per year.

Please come back and update this is you indeed have to seperate Sam's Club Mastercards activated. I'd be curious to know if I should have chased down that second Mastercard account they've been reporting to my bureau since 2014.

Would the new MC upgrade not keep the history of your store card?

A bit ago, when Synchrony cards were upgraded to the MasterCard version, it used to be that Synchrony would close the old store card account and open an new trade line with the MasterCard version of the card. So getting an upgrade was both good or bad, depending on where you were in your credit card journey. Some people, like the above poster, declined the new MasterCard for that reason, while others didn't care about the new trade line that was opened.

When I got upgraded my history was kept intact, all that the CR showed was an account update, not a new tradeline.
