Chase second recon attempt?

I applied for the Sapphire Preferred last week to try and get the bonus promo, got the 7-10 day message, immediately called and asked about status and was told it was denied, I asked to speak to someone about a reconsidering the application, was transferred after a bunch of questions and sitting on hold for a while came back and said they couldn't approve me.

The reason they gave me on the phone which was also in the denial letter was:

•Insufficient or no balance in Chase deposit and/or investment accounts

•One or more recent requests for new credit
•One or more requests for new credit in the past 12 months

Chase internal score 858

To me these all seem like pretty minor BS reasons to deny esp given the score. In the last 12 months prior to my application the only inqueries are from a HELOC (March, approved and reporting), Citi for a HD business account (Feb, approved, not reporting), and this chase app. My newest reporting CC is about 15 months old and im currently at 3/24.

My only current chase deposit account is a checking account I opened about 45 days ago to get the $300 Amazon card bonus with a small amount going in to avoid the fee with about $1600 sitting in it, I previously had a savings account I closed that was decent but not noteworthy by their terms probably, that I moved out to a HYSA. I also currently have the Amazon Visa in good standing and they have doubled the CL since I opened it. I did burn chase in BK about 9 years ago for ~6k, but that wasn't listed as a reason given on the letter or by the rep so it may or may not have been a factor.

Do you think its worth calling recon again and seeing if a different rep yields a different result? Not sure how that works with Chase, if once a decision is made on recon it won't change or a ymmv thing etc.

Your odds would be poor but not nonexistent. Occasionally someone is successful on their 2nd or even 3rd attempt at recon with Chase. If you're able to address/refute the concerns the analyst brought up during the 1st recon IMO there's no harm in trying again if you're willing to invest the time for the phone call.

I agree with @coldfusion that you probably won't succeed, but might as well take the shot.
