At the very least, when your friend starts getting government assistance, he should check whether it can be paid into a debit card. Social Security, for instance, will pay into a contracted Comerica Bank Debit Card for people who prefer to receive benefits that way instead of via direct deposit into a bank account.

So my friend doesn't have any credit history either like me but he has been homeless for years(addiction). He has been in a recovery house for a few weeks and wants to apply and hopefully get approved for the Cap1 Unsecured Platinum Mastercard like I did. But I have heard mixed thoughts on whether he could get approved since he doesn't have an actual permanent home.

He's in a residential treatment program and he told me he's having trouble getting a phone sent to him because the company won't send it to a "business address". Needs to be an actual home/apt.

is this true for credit cards? He really could use the card with the most likely $300 limit that I got. He's gonna get some govt assistance/money but not for at least a month or more.

Thanks to all.

I worked at a drug and alcohol treatment facility once upon a time who would routinely take out credit cards in someone's name to pay for their services. It was legal at the time IDK what goes on over there these days. There was a financial done at intake that opened the door to this type of abuse.

itd be nice to know if the family was somehow involved as most Tx centers do. I don't doubt this confusing business practice of Narconon has your name on the credit card.

as long as there is no fraud involved, this person could use your address if you trust them and vice versa.

furthermore, I'm sure most people have read that the type of income you get cannot be discriminated against ie you cannot be denied credit if your source of income is derived from welfare or government programs which I would imagine an addiction center accepts and the addict probably receives from the government.

read the fine print people. Even in real estate, we can't deny someone who is using unemployment income as their sole means of income. now, they may not get enough from any government source unless it's a pension or 401k, but the point remains that credit may not be denied just because the source of income is not savory with the lender.

alcoholics, opiate users, meth heads and s*x workers are all people too.

now, illegal income shouldn't be used for credit applications, but look at most of the billionaires in the world involved in lawsuits and dubious practices for ill-gotten gains imo.

the point of the TILA and many fair and equal credit Acts is to ensure credit is obtained based SOLELY on creditworthiness barring illegal activity.

P.S. the issue with the phone company is that they probably don't want a personal cellphone being used for commercial purposes. I had a friend who owned a tanning salon once and she tried to hook up a personal landline in her tanning business and they wouldn't let her lol... prices were cheaper for personal phones than for commercial/business phones. That's most likely the real reason why.... because they don't want a personal product being used commercially. just my .02

This reports as a credit card and allows them to build credit income source or not.

Then buy your friend a 50-100 dollar phone at Walmart and get them setup with a pre-paid service like mint/boost/cricket etc.

OOOOOO boy I see nothing but red flags. There are no friends in the homeless drug/alcohol life. Each and every person is nothing but a selfish sail boat fuel sales man/woman. The friend should focus on getting well and not some quick come up that they're most likely going to get burned over. I'm gonna let you in on a little intel between you ,me and fencepost and that is quit the BS cause id you say what is true and your friend is homeless, then how the hell is he going to pay his now maxed out cc. with what job is he going to pay his maxed out cc. See my man a true friend would tell him "fugetaboutit" bro that the last thing you need in yor life right now.

Thank you for your response but w/ all due respect ADA has nothing to do w/ getting a credit card. I myself was diagnosed w/ scoliosis at the age of 4 years old. I have had a posterior/anterior spinal fusion at age 16 and that has changed my life from that day forward. It has given me certain privileges, i.e. parking placard but nothing that even comes close to getting a front of the line approval for a CC. Everything I said in my last post was from a bad time 15 years ago. I'll give you a quick synopsis of everything and it encompasses 3 rehad trips, RX drug fraud that got me 22 felony counts, 60 days in the county jail and 3 trips to a 90 day program and lastly I bought a new truck 6 months after filing BK. I then subsequently went to jail 3 weeks later and my wife called up finance company and said come pick up his truck, he's in jail and i dont know how long he's going to be gone and i ended up getting a repossession on my freshly cleaned credit report. That right there is proof i should not be thinking about financing or CC at all. The though of getting a credit card while all this was going on never crossed my mind and thats because there was never a need for a new credit card. I was able to get every felony expunged from my record and graduate from a drug court program and subsequently complete an apprenticeship w/ the IBEW and currently a Journeyman Electrician. All this was done for my family and more importantly myself because if i am not well then nothing else matters. People need to get well before they even think abouit wanting a stupid CC.
