Any chance of an approval for a Chase United Explorer card at 7/24 for this card? Perhaps since it is a co-brand?

I already have two chase cards, never any late payments and just recently got a creadit line increase from Chase on one of the cards.

Worst case I should be down to 4/24 by the end of the year.

Would really hate to take on a hard pull with no shot.

I say go for it - unless I'm counting wrong, I got my United Quest at 6/24. They denied me due to bankruptcy - so I called their reconsideration line, and after a few transfers got a (I think) higher-up U.S. specialist. She listened to what I had to say, and approved me right then and there! This is my 1st Chase card.

I think Chase is less strict on the 5/24 rule with cobranded cards. Amazon was the first crack in the wall because they were unhappy about so many customers getting turned down. But even with core cards, for a little while Chase seemed to throw 5/24 out the window with Sapphire Preferred apps. This was right after I waited to get under 5/24 to get my CSP, of course. Once-upon-a-time you couldn't get a CLI on a Chase card if you were 5+/24, but I've gotten two or three increases at 5/24, 6/24, 7/24. So 5/24 is still a thing, but it doesn't seem to be the absolute barrier it once was. It depends on the rest of your profile and how much they like you (and maybe on how hard they want to push that particular card at this particular time).

I got all of my chase cards with at least 7/24 but that was back in 2012/2014. crazy how inflation will change things. I thkn youre more likely now to be approved with zero inquiries and a 650 FICO than with 10 inquiries and a 750 FICO lol

fwiw I got the marriot chase card in 2014 with 7/24 25k SL 690 fico. 150k income.

That's really fascinating on the airline revenue thing - I've vented on here before over AmEx's blatant refusal to give me a $1K credit line, be that Delta or anything else. You'd think Delta (or AmEx for that matter) would be a little more open to making money off passengers that way, instead of telling them to get lost... It's a big reason I've shifted more loyalty towards United AND American. Someone once compared to not getting accepted for a golf membership, because a person on the panel prefers Tommy Bahama and you wore Ralph Lauren to the interview...

I'm going out on a limb here again to say don't be deterred by metrics and statistics like these. If I listened to ANYONE on this forum, I wouldn't have my Quest Visa - credit history, past bankruptcy, 5/24, scores, and most every other thing would tell you I'd never, EVER get approved. But I also don't give up so easily...

Sorry to hear about your getting declined, and may you get this and/or better cards down the road. It's helpful to hear your data points, including the reason(s) for rejection and the bureau they pulled.

About a couple years ago I tried my luck at a Southwest card when I was over 5/24 (and when I started hearing that Chase was getting more lenient on co-branded cards, Amazon's in particular). It seems that Chase goes through periods of leniency with 5/24 on at least a few cards, before going back to enforcing the rule on most of them.

Speaking only for myself, I'd be leery about getting into a points system if the only way I could earn those points with a credit card is through Chase. But maybe I'd feel differently if I had spent more of the past 2 years gardening. 🪴

Well yesterday my new cards opened in the past 24 months dropped down to five from seven.

I saw a great offer for the United Explorer card on the United app for 65,000 miles after 3K spend in three months. I had my doubts I would get approved since I was rejected at 7/24 but figured the offer was worth taking another inquiry ding. I crossed my fingers and applied...

I was automatically approved and with a nice $19,500 credit limit!!

I'm shocked, but happy I took another gamble and got approved at 5/24. I'm thinking maybe it might be easier to get an approval for this card or other chase chase when there is an agressive new member bonus because they are really looking for new accounts.

April 2026 I applied for the Chase United Explorer card and was immediately approved. I was at 5/24 plus 2 Authorized User accounts. I was already pre-approved in the United app and it showed a specific APR %. (Perfect payment history, approx 770 Fico score.) I had read on other forums that some users recently were denied for being 8/24 despite pre approved with specific APR, but I gambled on perhaps Chase not yet seeing my two recent Apr 2026 cards yet though it definitely knew about the BOA hard pull.

My cards from past 24 months were:

[Apr 2026 Chase United Authorized User ],

Apr 2026 BOA Cust.
