APPLE CARD - IS THIS A GOOD CARD - STARTING LINE

I got approval for a starting line of 40K.

is this a reasonable starting limit.

apart from 3% on apple products , I don't see the usefulness of this card compared to other cards.

most of the online review on this card are mostly people who wants to buy a new apple product and want 3% cash back or ability to pay over time with no interest .

That's an outstanding starting limit for any card... but why get a card you have no realistic use for?

My initial motivation is that it is an elite Mastercard.

i really don't have Mastercard in my arsenal - so wanted to add one.

but after further review online , most reviewers noted you don't get any benefits of elite Mastercard , even though apple charges the merchant the elite Mastercard fees.

This card has shown up with a lot of credit limit reductions on this forum. If you have no need for this card and are looking at it for the credit limit, remember it can change for the worse quick.

Congrats. Not a bad card per but is cash back is run of the mill. I think the real magic of it is the built in App for your wallet on iOS. I find it really fast and pretty neat.

Apple pro tip...Vets get 10% off products then at the bottom of the Apple store is a refurbished section for even more savings. You can also get 6% cash back if you simply buy some Apple gift cards with a Amex Blue Cash Preffered. Apple charges show up as "Streaming". All in all using all of that Ive always netted some large savings on Apple gear.

I'm sure that you asking if 40k is a reasonable starting CL is tongue and cheek. If not I like to see the other limits on the cards you possess. Major congrats on the almost unheard limit for this card.

1. BOA customized cash rewards 99.9K over 8 years or so ( I have requested $100 CLI to round up to 100K - they refuse ).

2. AMEX BCP 1 year old 75k (just requested from 60K to 100K - approved for 75K , asked to send bank statements for 100K - that will be a separate post)

3. AMEX GOLD - approaching 1 year ( will PC to Platinum after a year).

4. CAP VENTURE X - 25K ( will likely close after I product change to Platinum above - PC about 5 years ago from regular ven to x)

I want one more card - Mastercard - also looking into Citi AA cards.

FICO scores over 800.

No I did not accept.

since the SL is soft pull - I was just curious to see it and decide.

i might still come back to reapply, but for now I am still thinking about it.

my BOA customized cash rewards gives me far more in reward cash - since I am also a rewards member.

OR, GS is about to be out of the Apple Card business and just doesn't care about the high limit knowing that it will end up being the next bank's problem. I only say that becaue back in 2018 I applied for the LL Bean card weeks before Barclays and Citi finalized the deal. I got the card and a 30K limit which was the highest starting card limit I had ever received. About two weeks later I got a letter from Citi saying my new card woudl arrive soon.

Anecdotal I know. Just a thought.

Yep, one of my more embarrassing apps. I'm just hopeful Chase may pick it up so i can switch it possibly to something better they have or else its doomed to be closed.

@barcaCongrats on your pre-approval. A $40K SL can buy you a lot of apples. It can buy you a lot of computers, too! 😂

If you have no plans to buy anything from Apple, I'm not sure why you'd want the card. Outside of Apple purchases, 2% is competitive if you're using Apple Pay, but you're only getting 1% back on non-Apple Pay charges. This card really shines when you're buying from Apple to get 3% cash back plus 0% financing. But refurbished products from the Apple Store don't get 0% financing, and they're often a much better deal.

@LADave - yes I use Apple Pay almost 99% of the time.

however, I still refuse the card.

I have BOA cash rewards card and AMEX BCP - both with heavy limits.

of course , I was just fishing around and looking for an excuse not to accept the card.

any CL of less than 20K will have been automatic refusal for me.

but the 40K was very tempting, but at the end, I still consider the BOA cash rewards and BCP enough for cash rewards.
