I had 120 days lates with Chase 7 years ago which had all dropped off this year & my scores are now all above 820. My question: will they ever approve me for anything ever again even though my credit reports have been excellent the past 6 years? Should I just call & ask?

Forgot to mention, reason I'm asking is because the only cards I want are the CSP & a Marriott Bonvoy card but I'm scared to apply because one hard pull will knock off 50-60 points & I had only one hard pull since then & that was 2 years ago.

Chase generally only blacklists people who have burned them and never paid their balances, or settled the account. If the account was ultimately paid, there shouldn't be an issue getting back in. If it was charged off and never paid, that's a different matter.

I was told by many that the higher your credit scores are, the more severe the "ding" and my scores are all above 820. A friend recently had a HP which only took off 10 pts & her scores were all approx 710, & yet another friend (who had scores around 790) received an HP & his took off 25--ish points off. Both were fico scores.

@CreditCloud wrote:

I was told by many that the higher your credit scores are, the more severe the "ding" and my scores are all above 820. Both were fico scores.

That's actually the exact opposite of what's typical for people with 800+ fico scores. Typically someone with 800+ scores will only see a drop of around 5 to 10 points for a single HP... max. If there's been additional recent inquiries, or things such as a significant increase in reported utilization, lowered credit limits, closure of accounts.... those things combined with a HP could trigger a more significant points loss from a HP. But generally the bigger hit will come from the new account reporting, especially, as mentioned, if your newest account is more than 12 months old.

If your reports are clean with no significant changes, or recent significant increase in reported utilization, there's no way you're taking a hit for 50 to 60 points for an inquiry. The last inquiry I had with all scores 800+ cost me 3 points.

I went in to apply for the CSR armed with scores in the 780 range in December 2016 which was around the time that grail card came out & during that period one had to go in to a branch to apply. The banker said they needed more proof of residency and they would snail mail me a form for the info. Well, long story shorter, I never received it or any subsequent ones they sent because they had a WRONG address! Or the banker typo'd it. Anyway, I got severely ill around that point and had put autopays on all of my cards because of it but they all came out of my Chase checking accounts & at this point, they thought it was a case of identity fraud & shut my checking & savings accounts and my Freedom card. The irony was of course I didn't have a clue because they still were sending sh*t to the wrong address!😖

50-60 points sounds like a crazy claim to me. My scores are over 800 and I have inquiries and new accounts pretty frequently. Only takes a couple of points off each every time I have an inquiry, and the new accounts have been about the same - sometimes they've actually increased my score because of the extra credit limit they add.

Just apply for the CSP I wouldn't stress.
