Aside from the limit, I'm surprised Citi didn't offer you the Amex option. When I applied, it gave me a choice after I submitted my info.

The good thing is that the Macy's SLs grow fast with only a SP.

That was very odd that they didn't offer the American Express option.

It just tells me Citibank's mindset that they do not want people to have excellent credit they pay their bills in full every month.

So when you got approved for yours and given the choice, what was the starting limits Citibank gave you?

So when you got approved for yours and awesome to choose what we are starting limits?

It was about a year ago (Fall 2023). My SL was $1500. Now at $14,000. I'll admit that I haven't been very diligent about using the card or requesting a CLI.

Just prior to applying for Macys, I applied for Best Buy and was given a choice of Visa or store card. I applied for Macys right away, and it came back offering me a choice of the Amex or store card. Since then, I applied for the Dillard’s card through Citi and it gave me a choice of the Visa or the store card. When I applied for the Citi Bloomingdale's card, it just went straight to the Amex.

@Saleen099 You should have taken it. I don't know yet if Comenity does SP CLIs on the new Saks MC. CLIs on the Comenity Bread Amex are SP only.

Macys can grow quickly, started with $800 last year. Is now at 20k. You can do soft pull limit increases every 30 days.

I agree the Macys card seems to come with low starting limits but it is easy to run up the credit line quickly. I have a FICO over 800 and they started me with a 3k starting line on their Macys AMEX card. At 6 months they approved me for 10k at 12 months for 15k and at 18 months I have a 20k line. A friend of mine who has a high FICO score applied in store recently. He uses UBS wealth management, has little outstanding debt. I had to laugh when he told me they gave him a $1500 starting CL after his 20 yr Macys account was closed for recent non use. (He had used it many times over the years.). I told him he should be able to run up the CL too in 18 months.

I find the 5 percent star rewards for Macys purchases helpful with Platinum status based on $1200 in annual spend at Macys. Now my online wallet has started showing 30 percent off coupons to use for purchases that are not on sale. I rarely shop in the store and mainly have items delivered to my home with free shipping no minimum for Platinum. If something doesn't fit it is easy to return at the local Macys. Last quarter they were giving 6 percent back in Star rewards for restaurant spend with the Macys AMEX card. I found that attractive.

The main rule is always PIF and do not ever carry a balance with their exhorbitant 31 percent interest rate. The AMEX Macys card also does not have a tap feature and will not register for Apple Pay. The Macys app has a wallet to store the card information for making card purchases in the store without the card. However, half the time when they scan the app's wallet bar code, the card rejects and I have to enter my SSN on the cash register terminal to make a cardless purchase at Macy's.

Apologies for not getting a screen shot (I was truly unprepared, ha) but it was for the standard APR and $5k. My Lowe's card is my oldest reporting credit account but the closest store is 30 miles away, while Home Depot is 2-3 miles away so if circumstances were different this card would be attractive.

Oh well, it was fun but I won't be taking the bait. My Home Depot recently started taking contactless payments at the register so I can now use my Altitude Reserve for 4.5% back (and there's also the trusty Citi Custom Cash for 5%). I'm also renting these days so that pretty much guarantees I'll be admiring the HD preapproval from a distance, LOL.

I decided to accept the $2,000 Macy's Amex so I can close my CreditOne $500 Amex.
