After 90 days, it was raised to 2k. In Oct of 2024, I requested a CLI that was denied citing low usage. I have been using it since. So this past week, Amex on its own increased the CL to $3500.

It is still very low and the only card with toy limit. Should I ask for recon(they dont really do that like the old days).

I did burn AMEX in 2016 and never paid them back.

amex doesn't do auto CLI's lightly, if you got one, amex is clearly okay with you at some level, you could probably try applying for a second card if you wanted one, not saying you might not get $1k again, but maybe not

just push the button every time it's available and ask for what you want, a couple of strategies:

Ask for $5k or less - typically tends to be safer to ask for less, if you ask for too much you can spook them and they will decline when they would have other approved a lesser amount

Ask for 3x - typically safe amount for people to ask for at lesser limits, how much of that you will get will depend on how amex has forgiven you (or not)

ask for more than 3x - riskiest, can just be outright denied, surely will come with at least a bank statement request for the amount above 3x, if not the entire amount

With all due respect, I don't think you can spook a computer system. Most CLI's, I believe, are initially handled by computer algorithms and only second by humans. Whatever you ask for is probably going to be countered by a computer.

Now for your other comment on applying for a second card. That may be a VERY sound idea since as I understand it Amex only does a hard pull on the initial card and soft pulls on subsequent cards. If the second card app is declined, per advertisements it's a no ding decline meaning it won't hurt your credit score. I don't know if Amex freely combines credit lines like some other cards but if a second card is granted, maybe the two lines can be combined to one card afterwards. I'm just spit balling on this. I only have an Amex through Navy Fed so it's not a real Amex like through Amex.

Final comment: I encourage restraint on applying for credit cards. Do you really need it or do you just want it? Will you abuse it or be responsible with it? In other words, are you digging a deep hole for yourself that might cave in on you or are you building a strong foundation? Just my 2 cents.

Just log in and see if the button is blue or grey. Blue means you can request an increase. Grey means you can't. My experience has been that they only let you request every 3 months, so if they just gave you an increase, you probably won't be able to until April.

I think the bigger question is why are you complaining about *only* getting a $3,500 limit with them? It looks like you have plenty of other credit ($100k+). You stated yourself that you don't really use the card. And you burned them and never paid them back. I'd suggest you be grateful for the second chance and earn back their trust with responsible behavior. AmEx is known for being generous. Heck, your CL has more than trippled in the first year. Give it time and it will grow. They are being cautious for a reason.
