Denied Venture X

Hi all,

after the changes being done to Chase Sapphire Reserve, which will increase its annual fee, I decided to apply for Capital One Savor a month and half ago. It was approved with a $30K limit. Yesterday I decided to apply for the Venture X, which was denied on the spot. This is the reason given by C1:

"Based on your application information, there are too many recently approved applications with Capital One."

Question for you: having a C1 CC approved a month ago is enough reason to deny another card?

Just FYI: all my scores are >800 and the only inquiry I have on my file is from the Savor app a month and half ago.

Capital One allows one card every six months.

Did they hit you with another HP for the VX application or did they deny straight away without the HP?

after about 3 months, you should try the pre-approval tool for the VX, you might only need to wait 3 months instead of 6 months.

I applied and was approved for the regular Venture and 3 months later I was pre approved for the Venture X and then officially approved. # months is the new wait time it seems.

The rule of thumb is that Capital One likes applications spaced out with a few months in between. Some people say that 6 months is a pretty safe time to wait, but there are some people who were approved for a second Capital One card only 3 months later, so it's not a strict rule.

Capital One has a pre-qualification tool for all cards other than the Venture X, and another pre-qualification tool just for the Venture X.

FWIW, when I did the 'regular' prequal tool a couple of months ago it came back with the Venture X as well. This might be a YMMV situation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just an update: I was often checking the prequal C1 site and on Friday it said I was pre-approved. Applied and got the Venture X with $30K limit. 2 and half months after the Savor approval.

Yeah, Capital One is known for being strict about spacing out approvals, even if your scores are excellent. Getting the Savor with a $30k limit just a month and a half ago is likely the main reason for the Venture X denial; they tend to want more time between new accounts with them. Frustrating when your profile is strong, but giving it a few months before reapplying should improve your chances.
