Cardless/Bilt conversion Denied

Attempted to convert WF Bilt to Cardless Bilt today. Denied due to too many inquiries. They did soft pull on Experian where I have 2 inquiries in the last 12 months and 5 in the last 2 years. I was never going to give up my 25k with WF anyway. I was looking forward to paying mortgage with Bilt 2.0 taking advantage of the statement close date to get 50 days interest free on card like I used to do with WF Bilt/rent. I read that Bilt 2.0 will now take funds from your bank account and not your credit card line. That makes the card useless for me with that caveat. Sure it might be good for points but that was never my primary function of using Bilt. I figured it would be a no with Cardless since previous apps over the years were denied due to inquiries. EX FICO is 821.

That’s wild… I’m LMFAO/24, which also means I have about 14 inquiries in the past 12 months. Yes, I’m embarrassed to admit it 😅. Wells Fargo has basically hated my profile and kept me stuck at a $6,300 limit for years.

I got approved for this card with a $24,000 limit and the LOWEST RATE available, which is 26.74%!!! I know it doesn’t really matter since I never carry a balance, but still… what are banks thinking charging a rate this high.

I'm glad I’ll be getting the 50,000 bonus points, and I’m seriously considering dropping the Amex Platinum since this card also gives me Priority Pass access

They're using LexisNexis as well so I suspect in my case it may have been information from LexisNexis.

@12njoy Sorry to hear that. But, easy come, easy go, I guess. Bummer on the "I read that Bilt 2.0 will now take funds from your bank account and not your credit card line." That makes me not want this card, either.

Interesting experience.

I attempted to use the "check your offer" on the new card. I have 1 EX inquiry in the last 24 months. My EXF8 is 843.

I submitted my details and it came back saying "we need more time" which is odd considering my profile.

If I don't get it...no love lost. I'm always intrigued by SP approvals and thought I would see the offer and then decide if I wanted it or not. 🤷🏻

Was denied myself. Great credit, no balances. Said I had to many inquiries as well. Got a email from BILT saying they are aware some are being denied but have high credit, no issue BILT cardmembers etc. States they are doing physical reviews of cases this impacts and they will be in touch.

Pretty sure they didnt care about any of us that they somehow found not to be worthy when we are but the rejection rate metric wise was probably higher then they anticpated. Looking at that they probably have issues with it.

Hopefully if one wants this card is a present user of it and has excellent credit gets it.

Same here. Had the Wells Fargo Bilt card for over a year, well established credit file with with over a dozen trade lines including a mix of revolving (all being bank cards from traditional big banks) and a couple of paid off installment loans, two paid off car loans, and a third almost paid off car loan, two or three new accounts in the past 3 years, absolutely no derogs (ever) on all three bureaus, 780 FICO 8, less than 3% credit utilization ratio and about a half a dozen recent inquiries on Experian from car shopping. Wrote to Bilt that it looks like Bilt 2.0 has a bright future... For Wells Fargo, if they're looking to purge customers like me.

Had to email them about this. Got my reinvite today but for the entry and middle card. Selected middle one. Interestingly gave me the choice of keeping my original line of credit and converted to Wells Fargo. Also hard credit check required to absolve.

I'm confused. I've had BILT since 2022, and had decided I would just let it convert to the WF Autograph. I thought maybe I would apply for BILT again down the road after the real world reviews came in after rollout.

I read about all the BILT 2.0 denials for existing BILT cardholders, and curiosity got the best of me. I tried the prequal and was denied due to too many recent inquiries. No big deal.

This afternoon I received an email inviting me to accept my BILT 2.0 offer. It said no HP would be made as long as I accept by 1/30/26, and said I would keep my existing account number.

There is no mention of whether acceptance of the BILT 2.0 cancels issuance of the WF Autograph. I'd rather have the Autography, but, of course, I would take both if I could with no HP.

I am reluctant to click ACCEPT.

If I remember correctly, after clicking Accept, the next pages ask you about Additional Users and if you'd like to keep your current Bilt card or close it. They can't just close your Wells account without your consent.

@imaximous That is my understanding that the applicant would be given the option to close the WF account. The applicant could then decide to close WF or leave it alone and let it convert to Autograph.

You are, in fact, given the option. I just did this myself, but can't remember exactly the order in which the pages came after clicking ACCEPT.

I chose to keep my original Bilt 1.0 open and will let it convert to Autograph. Initially, I thought about closing it, but it's a $30k credit line and the account history remains. The one that reports as new is the 2.0 card. Who knows what's going to happen with this new Bilt card since not even the creators themselves seem to know and come up with new stuff as they go
