Trying to Build Credit in America, what do you suggest, I only have an ITIN for now,

Like the header says, I am trying to build credit here in America, I am banking with BOA, when I check with the website it says this is a card we "recommend", from reading the posts on here, I take it that isn't always a approval, what cards do you suggest I try and get, also which cards are the best to get?

Apply for a secured card with BOA. If they don't take itin's, find a local or internet credit union.

SDFCU is another popular one:

Open a secured credit card with SDFCU.

Start a secured installment loan with alliant.

After seven months, apply for a capital one card.

After one year, apply for discover or chase freedom.

After two years, you should be good to go,

I see in another thread you were approved for a BOA credit card.

i would then open up the secured installment loan with alliant (you want installment loan history, I am even doing it).

apply for a regular Capital One Quicksiover at 7 months, if they only offer the Quicksiover one, take it.

after one year, do the above.

Discover say that is no longer taking ITIN. My banker at Chase say they changed policy and now they requiere SSN (can't confirm this either).

I applied for Discover by phone (online app didn't take ITIN) a year ago. No history, only ITIN and 3 HP (one on each) by Capital One denial. Started with $1,000, now at $2,500 with SP.

I was able to get Amex PRG (first pre-qual online ever) last year and ED in January with ITIN and online app.

I will recommend getting an Amex this year to lock your MSD then get another in January to get 1 year backdate (that card will show open 01/15 and not 01/16)
