I’m hoping to get some input regarding the Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Barclay Arrival card.

I’ve done the research as to the rewards/benefits and it seems to be a wash between them. I’m looking for the card with the friendliest underwriting and highest credit limit for a given Credit profile.

I’m currently in the 67x range on my FICO scores and have recently paid down my credit lines to under 30%, I expect the scores to be at or above 700 when I apply. I’ve got an established credit history, good salary ($200k) and low debt to income but had a bankruptcy that was discharged in 2009.

I like the Barclay for the chip/pin security for traveling but I’m not familiar with them, who has the best customer service? Support while traveling?

Thanks!

The CSP is a better card because it can be paired with chase freedom and you get the 5x bonus points each quarter. The CSP direct line is great. You literally just dial and dont have to it 1-2-4 to speak to someone, it automatically goes to an agent. CSP gives out some great lines with you income i would say your line should be at least 15k.

Barclays is more forgiving of BK, but after the 5 year mark Chase begins to become more forgiving.

Good Luck!

You'll get differing opinions when comes to creditors, plus you'll always have some whom retain loyalty to a creditor for a number of reasons.

Some have outlined valid points in regards to points combination, benefits as well as product benefits by combining cards for an advantagous point structure. Without getting to deep in the rehtoric and my personal opinion I suggest a balanced credit portfolio over any single creditor, find the best products out there that fit YOUR needs and be highly selective and critical at what works best for you, then set your goals to attain them you have have both if needed just be responsible.

For me, Chase is the one. They have an array of products geared towards travel including hotel cards with good bonuses, I have the IHG and Marriott cards, I like the AARP for dining....some places will give you 15% off your bill plus you get 3% from Chase; I also have the Freedom, CS and CSP. Probably will close either the CS or CSP within the next year, I like'm both and have good CL's but my CSP is higher @ 28K. I really don't know a lot about Barclays........I have their Rewards MC....it only has a 6.5K limit after 2 years and haven't been able to get much of a CLI from them. I had a co-branded LL Bean with a 4.5K limit; I closed it and they let me move the limit to my MC. Last app for CLI got me the message......."you have ample credit". You hear a lot about CLD's from Barclays also if you app for other cards. I haven't seen that with my account........yet.

Just do some research and talk to folks, then pick the one that fits.

OP as you're probably going to choose CSP as many here will lead you to choose it and it is probably a little easier to obtain, I recommend Barclay's Ring card for non-travel. It has a very low APR (8.00%), $0 balance transfer, and only a 1% transaction fee for foreign transactions.

I just got the CSP and decided to go for it over Barclay for three reasons:

1) Barclays has a lot of bad reviews for initiating fraud alerts and blocking transactions when using for international travel. I know a lot of friends that have Chase cards/CSP and use them frequently for international travel and have never encountered a problem.

2) Barclays pulls TU and Chase pulls Experian and my TU is my lowest score by almost 100 points. This turned out to be a non-issue as Chase double pulled my TU and Experian, but I got approved and got the Freedom on the same pulls, so it worked out for me.

3)Chase has a pre-qualify on their site, Barlcays no longer offers this.

My scores for CSP:

TU - 688

Eq - 703

Exp - 778

Util - 4%

AAoA - +12 years

I still have some late pays from an old account (2010-2011) on my file, but got approved instantly on-line for CSP and Freedom. I had pre-qualify for both on the Chase site.
