What are my chances of appling for one of the cards they think I might "like"?

Ah! I have an Amex already, when I click that link it sends me to a different page. But if I put my browser into "incognito" mode, it shows me the prequal. I guess they have some cookie that's identifying me as a customer.

Unfortunately it gave me the same message as you -- meaning, not prequalified, despite being an existing Amex customer

Your scores are a bit low for Amex. Try after you've gotten them above 650. I got approved at 668 EX and consider that a miracle.

I applied three weeks ago with 606 EX and their denial letter cited only my credit score as the reason, despite countless 5+ year old derogs.

I have 3 AMEX and go to the prequal quite a bit and nothing ever shows up. I did it before I applied for the BCP and Hilton HHonors...I was approved anyways..

What they think you might like means nothing with regard to your approval odds.

Even preapprovals are not guarantees. As always, do not rely on preapps and offers. They are just marketing. Use your needs/wants and your evalaution of your credit to determine what and when you apply. Don't let a creditor's marketing department decide these things for you.

Why does it make a reference to a credit review, I thought this was a SP? Maybe it is I just didn't like the wording in the disclaimer.

I have never received any pre-qual offer from Amex but I can still get the cards I want. And remember that your credit file is the most important, and pre-qual is not reliable as you can still get denied.

How long AU on your BCE? Is the PRG the 50K points/$1000 in 3 months? What APR for the BCP?

It's just crazy to think her only being on a card for days "Pre-qualifies" her for anything. I find it odd.

The pre-qualification thing is hit or miss. It all depends on when or if they do a soft pull and what info that reveals. Many months ago I paid off a huge loan by moving it to another lender. During the period between reporting a zero balance on the loan and the new loan reporting, I was pre-approved on AMEX for the Platinum card, the AMEX Blue Preferred and the Delta Gold Card. After the new loan was reporting, I didn't get the prequalifies. Last month I decided to apply for the Green AMEX but was declined due to a tax lien. The tax lien was actually not valid and court vacated and removed the lien. After the lien removal and 30 days passing, I applied for the AMEX Gold Preferred Rewards and was approved. Experian was pulled. I am thrilled to be back with AMEX after a long period of separation (20 years). I will be even more thrilled if the account is backdated to my original 1987 accounts.

To bolster my chances with AMEX, I did open an AMEX Serve account and made regular use of it. I also opened an AMEX savings account. I don't know if those measures helped my overall chances, but it did show positive use history on both ends. Based on all the data I have viewed, your current scores probably won't be enough to get you an AMEX right now, but consider the Serve card and open a savings account. However, you definitely wont' be approved i you don't apply. They still may say no. The only good thing about a rejection is that they will spell out the specific reason(s) why they are declining you. In my case last month, they declined because my report was showing an unpaid tax lien of $5,000 or more. With the complete removal of that lien, I was instantly approved.

That's a good point, actually (many really but one specifically for now). She has nothing to lose if I have her app now. She won't have access to my AU cards of her, it's simply so that in 2 years when she graduates she has something to stand on credit-wise.
