RFI - RBFCU Members

I might be looking at this CU vs. PENFED for my next application. I would like to leverage them as local and "brick and mortar" credit union for my area. If anyone is a member and has info on joining and what CRA is pulled for membership, credit cards, and HELOCs. Please let me know.

I called and the rep said they use TU to pull for membership. Sometimes EX.

Still wishing anyone currently using them to chime in.

I also called to make sure nothing had changed and rep said initial TU pull is good for 6 months for any of their products. Say what???? Dang!!!!

Barry,

I don't have any auto loan experience. They usually TU. and required to fax paystub to verify your income. You might ask them to get approved for the credit card with the same HP. They are really easy to deal with. By the way, they checked Chexsystem and pulled TU for the membership. I don't know who got the better rate. Hope it helps.

By the way, you can talk to underwriter directly. They are friendly and helpful.

I'm a RBFCU member and they aren't very good about giving you the best rates upfront IMHO. I was purchasing a 2013 BMW 650i and they gave me a ridiculously high interest rate! After I called PENFED and USAA for their rates RBFCU wanted to lower their initial rate but of course didn't come close to matching the other rates. I have maintained a RBFCU membership for over 8 years. They are very conservative on CC limits and rates, similar to SACU (San Antonio Federal Credit Union). They constantly advertise 1.99 rates on that stupid banner on the side of their branches but I can't recall any members who've received that rate LOL I keep an allotment going to the account, use the check card from time to time but at this point the free checking is the best product they have. Personally I'd use NFCU, USAA, PENFED or one of my other CU's before RBFCU when it comes to an auto loan product. Just my .02

Very insightful Zora. Curious about your profile when you applied? I'm not interested in auto loan, already have that with NFCU. But I do want to open a HELOC and NFCU cannot do lines of credit in Texas. PENFED does but with limits. RBFCU will do them. That's my dilemma. I may never get any other products from them.

At the time I had already been a member for a few years. At the time clean profile score in the 730's IIRC. Most recent installment loan had been an auto loan with USAA closed in 2011. If it helps I have a coworker who had a HELOC with RBFCU and he was very happy with the product. So much so that he did a refi through them just recently BUT he also complained of their auto loan rates and their continued denial of a CC lol

They just checked my chex system for membership. For a sig loan it was TU. I use them as my regular CU.

I refi with them last month. They pulled TU I was at a 737 and they refi my auto loan at the lowest rate they were offering 1.65% with the same HP I also got the rewards card with CL $5,000 also at the lowest rate of 9.9% with 0% BT. They notified me that if I wanted to apply for any other products they would use the same HP for 30 days.

I may have to give them a call come Monday morning...although I don't need an auto loan and really don't need another CC. Logged into my account tonight and didn't see any special offers but did notice the APR rates for vehicle loans *based on credit for 1.65%. Almost tempted to apply to see if they will give me the rate seeing the poster above was able to get it with a lower TU score than mine at this time.

When I joined RBFCU, it was a SP on TU. Then when I app'd for a LOC/Overdraft, it was a HP on TU. For the LOC/Overdraft, I just asked for a 5k limit. I don't know how high they would have been willing to go. The interest rate is reasonable (8.9%). They didn't give me my credit score, but at the time my TU-08 was around 815. I haven't used the LOC, yet. But it looks easy to transfer money to my checking account via the website. It has only been about 4 months, but the TL hasn't shown up on any of my CR's.

I didn't apply for a credit card. I went with a SSFCU CC, instead.

No auto loans, either. I have received ad promos for auto loans at 1.65%. I didn't look at any of them very close, but I don't think they were pre-qual offers.

The one time I went to a branch, it seemed fairly crowded/busy. Not like the experience at a small bank. From what I saw, they are big into teleconferencing. I did make a note to bring my change next time I am at a branch. They have the free coin machines.

They did have a computer glitch several months ago that exposed some member's account info. In response, they offered free life time identity protection (IIRC Lifelock?) to all members. It didn't interest me.

I did accept the 2k of "free" life insurance. I expect to get regular reminders that I can increase my coverage for a small fee. But it is still a nice little perk.

Overall, I don't have any complaints. But I haven't used them for anything big, either.

I'm a member they are good to deal with friendly helpful, I've just never found them to be very competitive they advertise low rates but for cc's they seem to not be known for being as generous in my opinion maybe they're changing but that's my .02$
