topic NASA FCU Credit Card in Credit Card Applications

About a month ago I applied to a NASA FCU Visa card. When doing so, I thought that two years of credit post BK would be sufficient to meet the credit union guidelines for credit consideration. My BK discharge was Jan 2013 and I opened my first TL in March 2013. I did not open any others until November 2013. Thinking that I met their guidelines I proceeded with my application.

They let me know that I would receive a letter in the mail. I waited and then recieved the letter. According to them, I did not meet the CU guidelines among other canned reasons, however I knew that the BK was the sticking point as they stated in the letter that credit scoring factors were beyond CU guidelines. Also, according to NASA, my Experian score was 697. I proceeded to write a letter for reconsideration stating that I did indeed have two years of post BK credit. They emailed me back to let me know that my letter did not have enough evidence to overturn their decision.

I then get with someone on their facebook page and ask for a loan officer to contact me. They were very friendly and informed me that one would call me the following day. After the loan officer called they told me that I did not meet credit union guidelines because I did not have two years of post BK credit. I informed them that I did, they rechecked my credit report and confirmed that I did. They then informed me that I needed three TL at two years post BK to meet credit union guidelines.

Ultimately this was news to me. At this point my only alternative is to wait till November and try again.

Then within 2 hours, I was approved for $5K. Irish is correct, they are conservative and your credit score does not tell the whole story. So if you are on the bubble, you will get denied. However, if you send them an email for recon and spill your heart to them, maybe they will give you a CC. Just make sure to wirte it in such a way that they CANT refuse you; make it bring a tear to their eye (without lying of course).

I received my card in the mail today. It is a lovely card (Space Shuttle design) and I might even hang it on the wall.
