Lowes denied any CLI in chat.

After reading several posts here that Lowes is normally pretty generous with CLI and that it's a soft pull through chat. I went ahead and logged in and asked. I've had my account for almost a year, got one non automatic CLI through a manual request on the site since I've had the account to a CLI of $1500, pulled up chat and went ahead and asked for the full 25k like so many have suggested expecting they would counter the request if necessary. Instead I got a flat out decline no counter. Scores are in the 710 range right now and there is no balance on the card. Any idea why? I guess this being the case I may want to rethink apping for some other accounts if something that is normally an approval was flat out declined.

Hard to say why with your scores. Must be something in your file that worries them. Is income a possibility? Also, what are your high credit limits now?

This is why it is not good to rely on trends. Many people have gotten their Lowes cards raised to huge limits. It doesn't mean that all underwriting is abandoned and 25k limits are just given to people because they asked, though.

Do you have a lot of recent accounts?

10k would be my highest CC also have a 15k LOC. I thought this would be an interesting test as I've been planning to app for CSP once a couple of changes hit my CR. I was a little surprised by the flat no. I guess these lates from last year may be an even bigger issue than I had expected (and I knew that they were a problem). Grrr...haven't been late in 7 years and then stuck in a short term bind for a couple of months and have to miss a couple...I don't think income is the issue: 200,000-250,000.

Nope. Haven't opened anything since 2013. I did recently get a personal loan from Lending Club but it hasn't posted to any bureau yet or even registered a HP yet.

Would it make any difference to call the BO #? Or would they be the same as chat? I legitimately have a rental property that is going to be vacant end of next month and will need to do some modifications, figured having an increase on Lowes would help.

What has been your usage on the card. I THINK this was one where I asked for an increase and was told no. Then used the card to buy a few small things. Then got 3k-->6k

OP: Chat or Back-door is going to be the same--if they're going to deny you...they're going to deny you no matter which one you use. I recently was approved for Lowe's also in-store and got a $1.5K SL, called BD# and reconned up to $5K...tried chat next day to get to $10K....no dice. I told them I was planning to rip out my kitchen and upstairs bathroom....which is the truth---eventually.

@Jerry: +1---me too. I've called, chatted, and hit that button numerous times in the last several months and that CL has not moved from $2K since April 2014 when I got the upgrade to Discover.

You've had the card for a year, and currently have a zero balance. Have you used it much, or has it pretty much been dormant? The vast majority of the CLI stories are from people who had just gotten approved, and thus no history. Lowes may be betting on the come with those increases. With you, they have a history to look at.

Hoarder, only thing that works for me at Synchrony, is the luv button. And that has to be at least 4 months between CLI's.

No hasn't been dormant, had a balance as of May (had done some housework) that I paid off. I'm thinking that unfortunately it's these lates from last year on my record. grrr...I knew they would bite me, and tried to work with the company in advance but they wouldn't have it now I have lates and it's messing things up.

June 30, July 60, December 30, all on my mortgage after they refused to work with me at all when I went through a job change that created a major short term money crunch as we had to relocate the whole family. So frustrating when you get into a position where you've contacted in advance, explained the short term problem, asked for a simple arrangement for two months to get the family situated and the money flowing again...but nope.

OP: I'm not sure about all 3 CR agencies, but with Experian I think you're allowed to add your own notes to your report, giving you a chance to explain your situation with the lates and for potential creditors to read it if you request a manual review. Check it out.
