Declined Citi Prestige

I should have known better as I just was approved for the Chase Freedom last week and it hasn't posted to my FICO yet. I'll try calling the EO office again tomorrow for an explaination or recon (apparently they closed an hour early today...) but I'm not holding my breath. I finally ordered a FICO report to see what could have been the issue and the only thing I could think of are either:

1) I've had 3 inquiries in 3 months but no new accounts (not true, it's just that the Freedom hasn't posted yet)

2) Inquiries + only 1 CC reporting

3) Low-ish FICO Bankcard score (733)

4) No experience with premium card

5) No previous history with Citi

6) Some combo of all of those

Oh well, lesson learned. Worse case scenario I chalk this up to learning experience since I did get to see my real FICO and I don't see myself getting more than 2 more cards anyways, but dagnabbit if I wouldn't have felt super awesome pulling the Prestige. I'll likely hold off on anything else until I'm ready to pull the trigger on the CSP (likely winter or spring time).

And for those curious, here are the FICO 8 scores

EQ: 797

TU: 807

EX: 825

Throw AAoA n2 the mix also. Let us know if U recon or denial reason(s) via letter if not. And hey... U can still feel (super) awesome when U app later and are approved.

AAoA is 6 years, so I don't know where the issue lies. I'll call the EO again tomorrow to see what the issue might have been as I'd hate to see a HP go to waste but it happens.

Sorry about the decline hopefully you can recon an approval. Why is your Bankcard score so low? All of my bankcard scores are over 800

My Bankcard 8 is over 800 but 2,4 and 5 are slightly lower with 3 being the outlier (lowest I could find)

What was the reason they gave you? they approved me with several new accounts this year.

I think Citi uses Fico 8 or Bankcard score 8 & not an old version of Fico score.

Most likely the prestige has a high minimum CL (I don't know what it would be, though). If you don't have any other cards with very high limits, it could very well be the reason for the decline. At least that is my guess. If so, a good sized bank account (Citi Gold?), could help overturn the decision.

No real reason yet. Called immediately after the app and the first rep said declined but I would get an reason in the mail. Waited a few hours, called a different number and this rep was a little nicer but same issue. Both seemed a little skittish when I asked for more details and both gave the same response (almost like they were reading a script).

Figured I would give the EO a shot. Intially called the wrong number but this rep was SUPER nice. Told me I called the wrong number, took all my info down and tried to transfer me to the right EO. When she tried to make the transfer she was getting a voicemail prompt, left them with my info. I called the same number back about an hour later and also got a voicemail prompt (apparently this office likes to leave really early). I'll call the number again tomorrow to see what the reason was but I'm not seeing it.

If you have a 10k limit on another card, I would think you would be golden. Hopefully, you can get some better info on the reason for the decline. Maybe it is something silly like identity verification. Good luck!

Well we know it's not 'identity verification' because two reps told the OP that they were declined. Hopefully they will have success with the EO.

What did you put as income OP? I could see that being a deciding factor as well, I was recently approved for the same card with lower scores than you. YMMV as always though.
