CSP and/or Freedom Chances

Hi all... Just graduated law school and am looking to get my first card. Went to Chase Pre-Qual site and was pre-approved for CSP, Freedom and Slate. What do you think the chances are of me getting either as a first real card? Secured a position for after I take the bar for $85k. Checked the CreditOne pre-qual site and got denied with a 775 rating from Equfiax. Just wondering if this is feasible... Thanks guys.

Just as well credit one didn't take you. You're way above the credit scores they cater to anyway. If you're prequalified for all 3 of chase's flagship cards, I'd say you're in good shape. However, what do your CRs look like? Any baddies? AAoA?

This would be my first real credit card, so I guess the AAoA would be zero? I have a card in my name under my mother's card (authorized user), so idk if that has anything to do with anything.

If you are prequalified then I would apply for any of the cards with benefits that match your lifestyle. The CSP is great if you are a traveler...If you don't travel then it's far from ideal. The Freedom is a pretty good "catch-all" card - not the best in any specific category but very flexible.

Be sure to apply for Chase cards first if you are looking at other bank cards (Citi, Barclays, Cap1, etc) because Chase implemented a policy that automatically denies applicants if they have more than 5 new accounts opened in the previous 2 years. I understand their reasoning (stop the churners) but it can be a pain in the rear for those trying to build their credit portfolio.

If I were you I'd app for the Freedom and the CSP on the same day. The Slate is worthless to you if you don't have any balance transfers to make. Freedom and CSP most likely would be the same HP and they work great together for earning UR points. Stay as far away from Credit One as possible. Your scores are too good for their crap cards.

Just to let everyone know about the offers... CSP: 15.99% Purchase and $5 or 3% BT; Freedom: 0% Intro for 15 billing cycles and then 13.99% thereafter.

Not too mad anymore. The inquiry didn't effect my score due to discover reporting my cli. It evened out ,So it's a good day! Haha

You have an amazing offer for the Freedom. My regular interest rate they offered me was about 21%. GO FOR IT!!!

You will get there. It took me 3 months to finally get into the 700's. Seemed like a year. I shyed away because of the judgement still reporting. Can't wait for that to come off in a few months.

Sorry, bit of a dumb question, but can you explain what you mean by "the new account thing"? Sorry, just trying to get as much knowledge about credit as possible.

What cards do you have now?

I have some pretty good ones so far but most are from Chase so I want to be able to diversify. My current line up is Discover It, Chase Freedom, CSP, SWA, Marriott, a Visa from my local credit union, and most recently a Delta AMEX Gold that I was shocked to get LOL. My scores are ratehr low again because of the hits I've taken for inquiries, new accounts and, utilization while I was trying to figure out how they new accounts reported. I think they will climb again once things level off. There are three cards that I have my eye on once my scores climb after some gardening: AMEX BCE, Cap 1 Venture and Hyatt. I'm gonna try for these around Nov-Dec.

Yesterday i apped for chase freedom, but was immediately denied because I opened up more than 5 new accounts (different creditors) in the past 2 years. The lady counted 8. 😔 little did she know I just got a citi double cash, venture, and Amex Ed. She probably would have hung up on me. 😂

Not a dumb question! Chase has a new policy of automatically denying apps for their in house cards (Freedom, Slate and CSP) if the applicant has more than 5 new accounts in the last 2 years. You won't have that problem though.

You have some good cards. I don't think you will have any problems obtaining them. I wanted the bce but decided to go for ED instead. I was nervous about the judgement being there.
