Wal-Mart Pushing Credit Card apps now

So I have noticed Wal-Mart has been pushing the asking to apply for credit thing alot. I see so many people getting denied when I am in line it's ridiculous lol

It is a marketing technique knowing the people who get approved will likely probably carry balances and be charged interest. The cashiers I am sure also get incentives for pushing people to apply..

I've noticed more push for apps in my local Wal-Mart too. Also at Sam's today they had the door greeter who checks membership cards pushing the CC. I think they were offering a $40 gift card incentive as well.

Pushing cards makes me remember my days at Sephora inside JCPenney. We had credit goals we were supposed to meet. Good thing was the JcP card could be used on Sephora.com. Bad thing was store card interest rates are awful lol

I know what you mean! I get soo depressed when I see the offer for a free 2 litre of pop or a 10 dollar gift card for signing up! I mean, if I didnt have the card already, I could of got a free 2 litre!

They always ask me when I shop there. I just got my card but I applied online, on my own, when I knew my score was high enough to get a instant approval which I did.

I was approached about applying in walmart recently. I told her that I already had a card and she said, "But people are getting a second one to save money!" Umm... no thanks. I have a 4k card that gets $5.00/mth useage.

Let em. I wish i had apped in store and gotten a gift card. Or free Mountain dew! The greatest soda in the world! haha

The walmart card does have some good in store perks of no interest financing. I know there are a lot of store card haters but not everyone has constant 0% checks in the drawer to attack a large purchase at a moment's notice. Continuing to enjoy my lowe's overstock, paypal, and WM.

If you have visited the "people of walmart" site, it will readilly be understood why there are so many denials. lol I don't apply for cards when there are people around. If I'm going to get denied, I'd rather take my pain & embarrassment privately.

You mean they get 10% or 15% off when they apply? And they get a free two liter too? Wow, I should go over to Walmart.....

I think the only way I would be tempted to apply for a second card is if I were going to make a large purchase and they were giving 15% off and I could still get the extended payment option. Then it would be worth it.

LOL. That is one site that I will try to avoid lol.

As for applying in stores: I am with you 100%. Not just because there is a "chance" of denial, but because why on earth would I want to give out my address, social, and income to a person that is likely not bonded and when there are other people next to you. That is just like asking for identity fraud. I mean that is my opinion, even though I did have my DW apply for a Kohls card at a register, but that was with a very nice older lady there and there was literally no one within screaming distance of us.

Although many hate store cards. Most love wally cash over. Fico score. What's not to love. Sychrony is good to most. I would go for 2nd if mastercard version but even my tu ok now. Never sure. Don't want two store cards.

I wanted to post in this thread the other day... I'm sure it's just because as long as Wal-Mart has it around they will be pushing it. It's the same as any retailer, they want that ridiculous high APR card offered to any and everyone in hopes that they will forget that they opened it and used it and will pay tons of fees.

Not even Mountain Dew. It was Sam's Choice regular and diet cola.

I have never used their financing options, but I keep that little financing card (that the cashier has to scan) in my purse. But I think they are only good for so long... Let me check. Yep, says offer good through December 31, 2015. I hope they send me another card after this one expires. I hate the fact that I would have to remember to use that card anyway. I wish the register would ask you if you want the financing option or not.

Back in my younger days. Every time I went to the mall, jcpenney, belk, sears all would have those tables set up at their entrances. "Hey apply today, get a free coffee mug". I don't want to even think about all the times I applied just to get a mug, a pen, or a $10 gift card. Sad thing is I never did get approved for one of them back then. Lol

I don't know about the "Wal-Mart Pushing Credit Card apps now", I got mine in Feb 2013 when the cashier pushed me to app to get a $25 statement credit for a $100+ purchase. I'm up to $5k CL now but rarely use it as when I pay with my Barclays Rewards card I get 2% rewards, I just use it for a small purchase every couple months to keep them happy. The free cash advance if you PIF by the due date is a nice feature though.

I wouldn't give that info to WM cashier likely earning a minium wage either, and you don't - when you app in store you key all the info into the card swipe checkout pad. that's how I app'd.

FYI the cashier only types your drivers license number and date of birth. You type all your personal information. And so what if they're making minimum wage you realize most of them are teenagers just out of high school or in high school?

Well, I certainly wasn't putting them down for making only minimum wage, actually I have empathy for them - but I'm not going to trust them with my personal info, a bank loan officer, yes.. As for being teenagers, come out to AZ sometime - at my Walmart the greeter looks like someone straight out of the Golden Girls, as do many of the cashiers.
