Barclay told me when I originally got my card that they like to see at least 1 year history with a major cc and preferably 2 years. They are not generally known to approve people as a first card or with short histories.

Barclays does like to see history but I view the rewards as one of their entry level cards and I think one can get by with only 6 months of history on revolving accounts (that's when I got approved) however I did have mortgage and student loan history. I also had a 640 TU Fico at the time due to high util. They approved me but just barely, got a $500 SL that they wouldn't reconsider when I tried calling. They've since bumped up to $1500 after 6 months.

Barclay Rewards was my first CC I got back in Jan 2014. Prior to that I only had student loans on my report. I was approved for $1500 after they called to ask for my past address. Four months later I got the Sallie Mae MasterCard at $4700. Obviously YMMV but giving Barclays a shot as a first CC is possible in my opinion, if you have student/auto loans on your credit report.

Edit: I wanted to point out that it wouldn't be a good idea in OP's case, without having a FICO and with such new accounts, but that in general terms it is possible.

just out of curiously have you thought of making your secured with cap1 unsecured? that'll be a nice start. then ask for a cli. it's a soft pull.
(depending how long you had it, though)

I think Cap 1 never graduates their secured cards, but they will give you an unsecured card if you maintain good history. Thanks for the advice.

@Anonymous wrote:
treat your credit like a business and like with any other business you should expand on what you already have. grow a deeper relationship. then move to other businesses
