Stepped out the garden- Barclays Decline!😳😢

Step out the garden, did my homework to determine if I had a chance and applied for the Barclay cash back card. I was immediately declined. I called the recon line and was told that I had a charge off with them from 9 years ago, yes 9 years!!!! This doesn't appear on any one my bureau rpts. The good thing is that the decline took place before they pulled my credit rpt, so I have no inquiry. I tried to explain the circumstances behind the charge off and even asked how long will this effect me, they didn't know. So I have now come to terms that Barclay is not in the cards for me, no biggie! Just was surprised that this old old debt is still in their database.

Some lenders have a very, very long memory. If I am not mistaken I think I have read stories here of folks getting denied for an incident well beyond 9 years.

It's not unheard for banks to blacklist 20+ years or lifetime (depending on how much they were burned for). You'll either have to wait, pay it back, or plead your case to an U/W.

Don't feel bad, Chase blacklisted me for 22 years until they were overwhelmed by my charm on a recon call :-)

Overwhelmed by your charm, lol! No, I'm over it now! I'm really grateful that they did pull my credit though. There are way too many credit card companies out here to stress out about Barclay. I should have stayed in the garden. I'm glad that Chase had a change of heart!

You know lenders/banks are bailed out too and Barclay is not the end all. You have to accept what you can't change. If they don't want to extend credit, so be it! It surely will not prevent me from setting credit goals and achieving them, just not with Barclay.

😂😂😂😂Yes I need a 10 ft. fence......I do realize my weakness! I'm happier about not getting a hard pull then if I got the credit card. Wouldn't it be nice if we could apply and then decide if we want the cc with the APR and CL before the hard pull. I can wish can't I, lol!

How much was it for. I wonder if you paid them back if they would approve you?

Your absolutely right and that's how I look at it. It was just surprising to me that went that far back. The old charge off hasn't been on my reports for years. Thanks!

PenFed nailed me on a 30 YO car loan from my previous marriage. I didn't even remember that was who had the note. Hell I wasn't even aware I owed them anything. The car was almost paid for when she took it.

Wow 30 year old debt, now Pen Fed has written that off and taken advantage of tax breaks! To hold a grudge for 30 years is a little bit petty, lol! You are probably better with out them. Thanks for sharing.

Never said they were the be all end all.

They have been pretty nice to me... but I've been with them a while too. I started with the Apple card 9/13 with a $1200 limit. It went to $2200 after 6 months and I later closed it and moved the limit over a new $6700 Sallie Mae card 12/14.

So I've been with them about 2 years... Sallie Mae is the only card I have but I have plans to get the Ring later on down the road. Nothing bad to say about Barclays... now if only Chase would open their doors.

Sorry for your denial... but you do have a 9 year old CO with them. Some lenders forgive and forget... some don't. It is what it is.
