Nordstrom DENIED-But still asking for documents?

I applied for the Nordstrom card online today. It said please call xyz to verify more information. So, I called. The agent said I was denied, too many inquiries. Alright so I figured that was it. She then went on to say they needed a copy of my license and a utility bill. I am puzzled. Why do they need that information if I was declined? It is a recon? I guess I'll send the stuff in anyway it doesn't hurt.

Sounds like they need some verification to me.. I'd send in the info like you and see what happens since they've already pulled credit..

This is true. From my research, everyone seems to get this verifying identity thing but if I were truly declined it seems odd they'd ask for those documents!

I had to send in docs following my recent DC card app. I sent the docs in and was notified shortly thereafter that my app was approved. I think this is starting to become common practice now. Send in the docs and cross your fingers.

Try to do those store apps in person. That way the clerk has your id and major credit card matching your name in his/her possession to help the app process go smoother.

Nordstrom sure makes people jump through a lot of hoops just to get a store card.

They used to be fairly simple to get in store. A weak file could get $300.

If they ask you to send a copy of your DL and utility bill to their PO box in CO you are tentatively approved pending verification of your identity. In my case I have a 7 year fraud alert on my credit reports.

I experienced the same thing, but I applied in the store. I emailed the CEO, that I didn't understand the reason for verification if I provided my DL and Major CC at the time of the app.

Well, I must say it was the fastest reply I have every received. Within minutes, I was on the phone with the best CR I have EVERY spoken to.. and within minutes I was approved!

Good job! Most card issuers will ask a question about an account on your credit report to verify identity on the phone. For instance who is your car financed by and what is the payment. Anyway, you're off and shopping at Nordys and the Rack! Yay!!!

I had the same issue! I applied on line and was given a message to call in to verify some information. I called in and was asked some basic demographics and then advised I had too many inquiries. I was advised I could send in my drivers license and another form of identification for reconsideration or reapply in a month or so.

I applied last weekend online, and recieved the call to verify message. I called and one rep told me that I would receive a letter in 7-10 days. I thought it was wierd since he didn't ask me to verify any information. I then called back and spoke to a different rep, and she told me to send a copy of my driver's license and a utility bill to their PO Box in CO. I hope I get it! I sent a copy of my DL and two utility bils I will update once I get a letter or the card in the mail

I did the same thing, sent documents and called them back a week later, they did another hard pull and declined me.

2 hard pulls for the same app. Not good...

Had the exact same thing happen. I have no baddies, none only inquiries from financing a home and a car this year and after having me send documents through the mail (I was a victim of identity theft and have a 7 year fraud alert on my reports) they did a second hard pull and declined me on the phone for too many inquiries and told me to apply again in a couple months. I was furious. If I had too many inquiries why risk sending a copy of my DL through the mail. I still haven't received a letter declining me either. I've been a customer for decades and have their debit card so I can accrue rewards but I think I'm going to give Sax and NM my business in the future. .

I am now concerned in that Nordstrom's asked for ID documents from me so I sent them. Now I wonder if they are going to do another hard pull. I see the initial one but I did not reapply or authorize a second pull. Is there anything that can be done on a second hard pull for the same application? You would think they would have some kind of tracking system when they request info when talking to you by phone and you send it in. I am not interested in a second application or recon. I don't need the card that bad. I am not going to beg them for credit, I can use a Visa but since they didn't ouright deny me I went on and sent what they asked for. A second HP would not be good and I will need to pursue it's removal if someone on the forum can give me some advice I applied online and the approval popped up for a second and them another pop up asking for me to call popped up over the approval and that's when they asked 50 questions and wanted the ID documents sent to a PO box in CO. It would be nice for them to notify me in email since I applied online the outcome of this endeavor. I don't like to do a lot of calling, transferring and waiting since that is why I do it online and I live 200 miles from the nearest store.

Thanks for that info. Makes me feel a little better. Did you get any notification that you were approved prior to receiving the card? I was hoping they would at least acknowledge receipt of the documents or send an email whether approved or denied since I initially applied online.
