Does Chase Blacklist ?

I presay never had a Chase card, but back in 2008 right in the middle of my filing of a CH13,, I believe it's was CITIBANK sold off there Best Buy accts to CHASE Bank , So I guessing a BK a Chase acct . Because every time I try their (Chase) pre-approve site I get NOTHING. Ugh

OP- chase does have a very,very long memory and does put people on list.

but, even though they have a long memory. 7+ years out might be long enough for them. I have 8 chase cards and never prequaled for any of them.

I burned chase in a BK with several of their cards in 2003. It took me nearly 9 1/2 years to get back in. U might have to just apply and see what happens. Id do it if you are low on inquiries and new accounts since you may have to recon with them.

To add on to this helpful post, I'll say that it helps to do business with them, or in other words, to bank with them. If you have a savings/checkings with them and you go into Chase, Chase employees often give credit cards to people even if all the prequal sites show nothing and even for those with bad history. I say you have a better chance if you go and talk to someone.

I also opened a checking/ savings with chase about 6 months before I opned my Freedom card. Low overall credit utilization also helps alot.

Chase is on my "wants list" but they were included in my BK in 2009. Two cards with one having a balance of over $80K. Maybe I'll start a relationship with them then apply for a card in a few years.

before chase let me back in, i tried one of my first recons with them in 2013 for a slate visa. The csr mentioned my 9 year old bankruptcy wasnt holding me back from getting in, but my merrick bank visa reporting a 50 % balance should be lowered and then reapply. He even said I can see u burned us on a United Visa and Slate from 2003 but thats not holding us back. utilization is.

So i opened the checking account/ savings account. got my utilization down to 1% and was approved Freedom 3 months later. They like to see time and positive positive history before letting u back in, from my experience.

Reading these stories about Chase makes me think about why go with them? I know they are seen as one of the premier cards, but with their tight requirements and their financial reviews, is it more about being in the "club" than anything else? Other cards offer similar rewards without the heartache.

I just peruse all the companies as who I could use the most effectively really in the future for me. After seeing how many there really are, it took alot of pressure off from trying to become the perfect canidate.

As others have said Chase has a very long memory. Last year during a recon call they asked me about an old Bank1 card I let go bad in 1999. I didn't even remember it.

As to why get in with them, they have arguably some of the best sign up offers and rewards cards out there.

It's a selective long memory, key word selective

I've seen folks with charged off cards or bankrupt cards (or at least labeled so and still on profile) get new cards or have new cards

Funny enough, I've also seen a case where someone opened a checking account and got approved for a cc; they shut down the checking based on some information from years ago that it was so old and the information was wiped..but still buried beneath somewhere so that when a second team looked at it they reserved the right not to do business with her anymore, shut down the checking but the cc was left alone.

I'm sure there are quite a few folks who have been denied a cc because they've burned chase in the past but just as much folks who have burned chase in the past--but is able to get cards or reestablish a relationship with chase

I would just bite the bullet and do the inquiry, unless you've already have multiples..but that's just me. No one can really say for sure except underwriters

Barclay blacklist as well. I applied recently and definitely have the scores to be approved but they went back over 9 years to a account that no longer appears on my credit report for a few hundred dollars. The good thing, I didn't get a HP, they looked at the Blacklist before running my credit. Too many credit card companies out here then to sweat it!

I can confirm this as well... I 'bit the bullet' and app'd for Sallie Mae a few weeks back. Just like you describe, they didn't even bother to check my credit; the letter they sent me even confirmed that no credit bureau report was used in the decision, and that the denial was due to a 'previous' account. The account they are referencing was an old Juniper Bank account, and was CO'd around 2006-2007... it's been off my credit report for some time now.

I know about the 'recon', but honestly there are so many good cards these days, I didn't even bother. Since I now know that as long as I'm on the 'blacklist' there won't be a HP, I might just try again from time to time to see what happens... LOL

I had a chargeoff from Chase for approx $7k, and 7 years later I tried to apply for a CSP and was denied, credit was pulled and I got a denial letter where they stated past chargeoff as one of the reasons, I called recon they said they can't approve it because of the other baddies on my CR but she told me as soon as they fall off my report I could try again, after some of them fell off I tried again but was declined but was approved for the Freedom card, so I guess they do forgive after they see you're responsible.

OP, FWIW, I have never had anyting come back when I did the prequal check and was instant approval on (3) Chase apps.
