PayPal denial without inquiry, weird.....

So I apped late last night for the PayPal card, between 1:30 and 2:00am. Got a denial message and then the email came right after with the info as to why I was denied.

This is their reason:

This letter is in response to your recent request to open a PayPal Credit account. Our records show that you requested to open an account or make a purchase using the PayPal Credit payment method on 10/29/2015.

We regret that we are unable to approve you for the service at this time for the following reasons:

Certain elements of the transaction vary significantly from typical customer purchase behaviors due to the risk associated with this type of transaction, as well as the time of the day of the transaction.

So apparently the time of day as to when you app is a factor in the credit decision. So I apped again during regular business hours and got this denial:

We regret that we are unable to approve you for the service at this time for the following reasons:

Unfortunately, since we already have an application on file for you that we declined, we are unable to approve this attempt to open a PayPal Credit account.

They didnt HP or SP me, just a decision based on the time I apped. Anyone else have this happen to them with PayPal or any other creditor??

Sometimes when I app for things, the pull doesn't show up until the next day, sometimes 2 days.

weird denial reason being time of day and outside normal of what you were trying to purchase.. This is new at least to me. There is a good chance you didn't get hit with a HP if their system was programmed to auto reject before pulling credit for an application that feel outside their paramaters.. You can try again in 30 days if you didn't get a HP or even if you did and stilll want the TL.

Actually, I wasn't even trying to buy anything. I was just applying for the card. Just clicked the apply now button and fill out the form. Almost instantly after I got the submit button, I got the denial message on the screen followed quickly by the email containing the reason.

Instant denials with no pull frequently mean blacklisted.

Being blacklisted doesn't make sense since I never had a PayPal account and their denial reason was specifically stated in their email to me.

The reasons stated in denials are quite frequently meaningless. Who is the underlying issuing bank?

Comenity. And I already cards through them. Kind of weird but just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience with them or any other lender.

Instant denials without a pull can also happen if a lender believes you are at the maximum exposure allowed.

This isn't a PayPal exclusive denial, it's Comenity's. I've read posts on different forums where people applied for newegg.com and received it, yet another on ebay's bill me later feature (Comenity is also the lender of that).

Comenity has their hands in so many cookie jars that the blacklist a person might be on, could be any of a number of merchants. I'm not saying you are, I'm just saying that, not ever having a PayPal account has nothing to do with this denial.

Yeah, well I'll probably never find out why or what blacklist, if any, I'm on. I have open accounts in good standing with Comenity and when I apped for the card, I apped straight from the Bill Me Later link on the Comenity site.

If it helps any, not one post that I've ever read where someone received that reason for denial, has ever found out why (at least at the time of their post). Several stated they called to find out and were told by CS that they didn't know either, or had never heard of it. Go figure.

The first hp will show up. After. Auto denial. The denial reason is not time of day. It says due to the unusual transaction from typical customer behavior at the time as well like a 5k purchase or something. All info would be relevant for help. You stated this yourself op. So why would you think it is just based on the time you applied. Appears you wanted a large transaction somehow. What were you doing other than applying? Trying to buy something? If not. Wait 30 days try again. This. Is with comenity. Do you have pay pal with synch? Or any other comenity product with issues?

Well as of right now I have no inquiries on any of my 3 reports. And as I stated before, I did not try to buy anything. I just apped for the card right from the Bill Me Later site. I also stated before I have not had a PayPal account, which means, not with Comenity or Synch, with no one. Also I did state I have other accounts with Comenity all in perfect standing, no lates or anything. So the time of day would be the factor as clearly stated in the denial letter they sent me.
