Amex spend for Bonus

Hello, Just got approved for Delta Amex while buying tickets for an upcoming trip next week. The offer is 50,000 bonus miles for $2000 spend in 3 months and a $50 statement credit if you make a Delta purchase on the card within the first 3 months (which I did when I booked tickets) I know some of the $2000 spend will count the air line tickets I just purchased but I am wondering about the particular wording on the offer.

It says make $2000 worth of purchases in 3 months excluding refilling gift cards, prepaids yada yada. It doesn't say if I put utility bill spend or say my car insurance bill of $2300 is coming up this month. Instead of breaking down the payments like I usually do and pay from auto pay from checking account. I could just throw the car insurance on new Amex and that would cover the spend needed and I will just PIF when statement cuts. Is that considered a purchase in their eyes? or does purchase mean merchandise. I read the offer and it just isn't that clear but then again this is my first bonus offer and those free miles will come in handy since I fly to see the doctor every other month.

Car insurance, utilities etc all count towards meeting min spend bonuses. That's how I've met a couple of mine.

Definitely counts. Very little doesn't. You can even buy Amex gift cards and it will count.

I can 100% guarantee you utility bill payments and insurance count. As well as property tax! Its a great way to get more than the usual cash back amounts as most of the extra points for utility payment cards dont support it any more.

I think the head haunco of sister wives must have a credit card bonus addiction. That way he can split his inquiries over six people. LOL.
