Chase Sapphire Preferred Application Status (UPDATE)

Today I feel pretty good about my chance to finally get a Chase CSP. My current status since December 1st is pending for 30 days. I was cleaning out old email and discovered my two application response emails from Chase when I applied for my Marriott and IHG cards. Both had 30 day notices as well.

Today I found out about Credit Karma and Credit Sesame, thanks to myfico forums. So, I signed up for Credit Karma and one of the cards they said I had a "Very Good" chance of getting approved for was a Chase Freedom card. I shouldn't draw any conslusions, but I figure if I'm good for one Ultimate Rewards card I should be okay for the other. And besides, I checked my credit card inquiries over the past 2 years. Four! And two of those were the Chase cards. One other was for the CSP a while back of which I got promptly denied for. (Just heard about recon calls in tihs forum as well. Probably should have done that back then.)

I figure at the very least, they would take some credit line from my other two Chase cards totaling $7000 and PIF. My point in getting an Ultimate Rewards card is that I can transfer points to those same hotel chains anyway. I will have more flexibility with points.

I'm not too impressed with IHG. They have the whole Spire Elite member level now, but walking into a Holiday Inn Express, you'd never know. I was treated like an average person walking in. No, it's no tthe Hilton, but come on. Give me a cookie or something. Though, I would like to keep it around for the annual free night.

Did you check pre-qual before applying for CSP?

You can ignore the Credit Karma recommendations. They're nothing but paid advertising.

No. I didn't know I had that option when I did. Honestly, the very night I applied I did some research and stumbled upon this forum. But I had already applied. I think I have learned so much in the past few days from this forum that I wish I knew before I applied. But, this is the first time I applied for a CSP and didn't get an instant denial. This is my 3rd time in as many years.

Have you called the Chase automated line to check the status of your applications? The rule of thumb is that if the line says you'll hear from them in "7-10 days", it's probably a denial. However, if the message is "two weeks" or "30 days" then it's likely an approval and they may simply need to verify your information. Doesn't hurt to check your status.

Experience suggests, however, that you should refrain from calling the reconsideration lines and speaking with an analyst or underwriter unless and until you receive a denial by mail. Even then, it may not do you any good but since you've already incurred an HP, you don't have much to lose. YMMV!

I've called the automated status line since I applied, each day it has been the 30-day message. So, I will wait until I either receive the cards or a denial letter. I have never even considered the recon line before reading these forums. Never knew they existed. But I will wait until I hear back from Chase before talking to a human being.

Chase must be flooded with apps this month. I JUST recieved their application email stating that they will contact me within 30 days. When I saw the email I thought it was a denial because it didn't say Welcome! lol I submitted the app on Tuesday. Never got the application confirmation email. I was tempted to call Chase to see if they had the right email a few days ago. Now I guess they do.

Still waiting on a decision.

LOL I just experienced the same thing! Received a 30-day Email early this morning for an application that I filed several days ago. At first I thought this was a new, fraudulent application. But when I called the automated status line, it was clear this was a reference to my earlier application. Whew!

But when I called the automated status line, it was clear this was a reference to my earlier application. Whew!

I just got an email saying there was a new message in my private Chase inbox. I thought that was kind of wierd for a denial or approval. But once again, it was in response to an old inquiry about a PC to Ritz Carlton. I have receive two responses on this same inquiry so far. I hope this is not the third. If it is, I'm starting to wonder what's going on over there at Chase. They seem to be disorganized. Or they are having some serious glitches in their systems. I wonder if this is why I'm still waiting. I already mentioned that I took their suggestion and applied for the CSP. They keep telling me that I won't get the signup offers if I do a PC to Ritz Carlton. Okay. Got that. lol let's move on Chase.

Woo hoo! I called the status line and the message updated from 30-days to 2 weeks! I'm still not going to call. I'll play it cool. I hope I get the cards or a verification notice before I leave for vacation.

Hey have you thought of at least calling the verification dept? You dont have to speak to the recon dept. When I applied for freedom I had the same experience. App status line said 30 days and other # said 2 weeks. After reading a few post on here I called app status # pressed 0 to talk to a customer service rep and asked to speak to the verification/fraud dept for new applications. They transferred me I answered a few identity questions and was approved and the rep expedited my card Same thing happened with my moms card. Except verification/fraud dept was closed and we had to call the next day. That time the rep gave us the direct # to that dept. Called next morning after a few questions approved. I mean it will speed up the process. But if you dont mind waiting I understand. Me personally im very impatient lol. Good luck!

Well, that was a dead end. lol I did exactly as you said and the lady said she would connect me to the right department. Then it went to a weird recording that said it isn't the right number for some service and it hung up. lol Is that a sign that I should just wait? lol Also, they ask for a reference number. What should be the response?

And that's a wrap. Denied. I'm done with Chase. Perhaps I'm too proud. lol But being denied leaves a bad taste in your mouth. High utilization on other cards. He mentioned a $700 balance on a Wells Fargo card with a $1000 limit. It is with a 0% promotion. WHY would I focus on that until the offer is up? Wouldn't I want to pay down higher interest cards first? That will be paid off next month anyway.

He also noted that I had an OPEN credit line that is close to the limit was a HELOC that was actually closed in the Spring and I can no longer draw on it. He said the credit report shows as open. I told him Im not looking to draw MORE credit. I just want to take advantage of the rewards program. Borrow from the other two co-branded cards that have zero balances? Nada. To no avail. Sigh.

I know about the tricks in this forum. But when a door is shut it is shut. I tried for this card for three years. They can have it. Next year I will be seriously considering my relationship with Chase. It doesn't make any sense to me sometimes. But hey. They are the banks. I'll wait until they come to me next time. In the meantime I'll give Citi and Amex my love.

It's cool. I made it to this forum a little too late to really understand what I was getting into. But I'm serious when I say I'm done with Chase until they can prove to me they want me. That may never happen. Oh well. :-) But if it was meant to be, they'll send me an invitation in the mail.

I'm sorry OP. The UTL kills. I have to keep mine under 5% since I have lower scores. I was 1% to app for United.

Well, you've got Aavantage or could do Delta/Starwood/Hilton and ED.

Sorry to hear about this setback. I'd wait 30 days, pay your other cards/loans down, make sure they report (you'll see it on your myFICO scores), and reapply.

I'll wager if you do that, you could get instantly approved for the CSP!

Oh. I meant continue to use them for my daily spend. I'll split my daily spend between SPG and Citi Prtestige even though the point accrual sucks on Prestige. All my Chase cards are at 0 balance. I already have AAdvantage, Prestige, AMEX SPG, and Citi HHonors.
