Hello, All. We both have Dental insurance on our boy(He's 3 years old) Apparently he has large crevices & he needs some work done. I'm cool with it, I just want to see why she's making such a big deal as being listed as authroized user on my dental insurance.

I had sent her the Dental Card, but apparently the member ID wasn't on it. So I logged in & got the official ID card. I told her I'd fax it to the dental office to make it easier on her. I live 2,000 miles away; She then says "No, I have to also be added as a person authorized to receive info about <Our Son> and have an alert on file to send all info related to <our son> to be sent to my address...

"Otherwise, You'll get all bills & be responsibe for paying them & they'll go to your credit"

Why is this needed? She has got in trouble by the courts for lying, so I just want to double check.

Thank you all!

I would call the dental office if you have that info to determine their policy and to get your specific questions answered.im sure the office has worked with various situations like yours.

Trust your Instinct there is no reason she needs access or your card she can still take your son and all she should have to do is sign as responsible Adult and if dentist is willing to accept son insurance as a Patient at worst all that might be needed is a fax from you authorizing her to make decisions and for you to provide them nsurance info and sign off.Every state is different but most should work with you long as Insured. If she was trust worthy no problems but with a past history wouldn't trust it !

i agree about calling the dentist's office to deal with insurance and inquire about their billing practice.

But one thing i want to suggest is to get sealant on your son's teeth - even the baby teeth and definitely the permanent teeth. cavities at such a young age is a worry and sealants will reduce, if not prevent their occurrence when combined with good dental hygiene. it will also reduce your dental cost in the long run -- it costs much less than drilling and filling or worse. Your kid will thank you when he is older and still with perfect teeth.

Don't give her any access to your credit in any form. She has to take responsibility and build her credit up herself. She is trying to leverage your good fortune for an easy ticket up in her report. This more than often never goes well. Just don't! Take care of your son with your money. If she wants to pitch in that's great. She does not need anything more than that though.

Newsflash - the dentist office will probably go after BOTH of you for the unpaid portions of the dental bill.

Definitely call and talk to the dentist office directly. Same with any medical as well.

Whose insurance is primary for dental? Whose is secondary? Make sure the dentist has the correct information.

Who is responsible for paying anything the insurance doesn't cover? You? Her? Make sure the dentist's office knows. (Regardless, the dentist office will probably come after you for unpaid balances if the child's mother doesn't pay them in a timely manner.)

"Crevices" in a 3 yrs old teeth? Do some online research. Talk to pediatric dentists. That is who she is taking him to see right - a pediatric dentist???? Get educated.

I was told at age 18 that I had no enamal on my teeth. Dentist did "sealant" three times and it never stuck. It's been many decades since that dental declaration and I still don't have cavaities. None. Despite not having any enamal on my teeth. I don't use toothpaste. I don't use a flouride rinse. I don't use city/tap water. (I do oil pulling and baking soda.)

ps - I have always refused to give my social security number to the dentist and to the doctor and to any medical facility. They do NOT need it to provide services. Same with the billing department. The insurance card is good enough. No subscriber's DOB is needed either. Or THEIR photo ID.

Another story - my brother in law's ex wife was able to get his basic information. Long after the judge said they were divorced, she falsely claimed he had dental insurance and went in and had a bunch of cosmetic stuff done. She gave the dentist office is OLD dental insurance card, his DOB, and his SS#. She got a new mouth. He got sent to collections for thousands and thousands of dollars. We learned of this when I pulled his credit report and went backwards sleuthing. As far as the dentist was concerned, my brother was responsible for the bill even though he had never stepped food into the office and had never signed anything.

So be VERY CAREFUL!!
