Even though we dont currently reside together. Also dont know if it matters my daughter is 3 years old so I dont think I could apply for a account for her then apply from her account for me just looking for options

Under the membership guidelines I would think unfortunately no, since you do not reside in the same household

Shady of me??

Most members of NCFU meet the eligibilty requirements, stating that they usually don't check anyway ummmmm that's shady. Just because you can doesn't mean should.

NFCU membership is a "privilege " to be able to join through your own military service or a family member service, that I do take seriously.

It states parents/grandparents/children/grandchildren/siblings/spouses. It doesn’t stipulate they have to live with you. Besides OP stated his grandfather was in the military. Doesn’t seem to me their too concerned about who is who. Cause if they were they’d be verifying everyone. In my opinion seems like they just want members and $$$$ deposited. (Mod snip - keep comments/replies under the FSR guidelines).

Doesn’t say anything about age. And like I said he advised me his grandfather was in military so that’s all he needs. I do believe that he should be upfront with them and see what they say. Besides their not going to lend credit to just anyone their like every other lending institution that have policy.

These types of questions/scenarios/heated debates would be solved in NFCU would tighten things up a bit. Prior to February 2017 (and 2016 for those that joined via NLUS SD), NFCU was very, very difficult to get into. Even veterans couldn't join! Now, anybody can basically call them up, state that someone they are related to was military and just like that they are in. This is of course an assumption and they may have access to information that can verify what they are told, but I do not know this.

I believe there are people (and I am not insinuating anybody that has posted to this thread did so) who basically lie to join NFCU.

I would like to see NFCU operated more like USAA in that the individual with the military service has to join and then sponsor the family member without military service.

I believe that NFCU is turning a blind eye because, even though they are non-for-profit, they are still a business and businesses need to grow. So they need more members. I just really liked NFCU more when they were harder to join and weren't the town bicycle.

As SouthJamaica stated, it is best to call NFCU and explain the situation to see what they say. If they say no, than PenFed is a great alternative. Also, apparently BECU is allowing out-of-state members and they are also a very good alternative.

No where in the original post did the OP tell us his grandfather was in the military, if they did then that would be his in and this discussion would be a moot point.

I'm going to call because I wanna be on the safe side hopefully I have time today to call and find out fingers crossed on a side note got curious and looked this up since I'm at work dont know if this would factor in at all

The provincial Family Law Act defines spouse as including married spouses and unmarried couples, provided that the unmarried couple has lived together in a "marriage-like relationship" for at least two years, or lived together for less than two years if they have had a child.
