IRS "Get My Payment" Portal is Live

This application will give you information about:

Your payment status
Your payment type
Whether we need more information from you, including bank account information

I know the IRS doesn't have my bank info as while I file my taxes annually with TurboTax online free edition I haven't had any federal income tax liability for a couple years - semi-retired with retirement Social Security and part time employment that isn't high enough to have a federal income tax liability. I file as Single with 2 Exemptions so no fed income tax is withheld, but there seems to be no escape from having Arizona State Income tax withheld, so I file to get my state income tax withholding refunded.

So if you filed your 2019 or 2018 Federal Tax return you can use the IRS Get My Payment portal to see if you qualify for the stimulus payment. You start by entering your personal info, SS#, DOB, street address and Zip. It will tell you if you qualify for a payment and if they need your bank info, and it did tell me I qualify for a payment but they needed my bank info. Then the next step is to enter your Form 1040 AGI (Adjusted Gross Income), and your bank info for direct deposit of you payment. But you also have to select whether you received a refund or if you made a payment, and then enter the amount of your refund or payment.

Just one little problem, government tech geniuses - There needs to be a third option: You filed but neither received a refund nor made a payment. Surely I'm not the only person in the entire U.S. who filed a tax return and had no refund and didn't owe anything???

I tried making no selection - Nope, red letters: You must select Refund or Payment! So I try Refund with 0 amount (no dollar signs or decimal points allowed!) Error, error! Start over! So then I try Payment with 0 amount, Error, error! Start over!

Now I'm locked out for too many attempts. I'll try again tomorrow, but I'm thinking it looks like a paper check for me.

My mom is in a very similar situation. She doesn't get social security and doesn't work because she takes care of my dad; we filed her tax return as zero just so she could get the payment but they wouldn't allow bank info to be put on the form since it was a zero return and they also forced her to print it out and mail it in. Well the IRS is not processing mailed returns due to Covid19 and the tool will not let her put in her bank info because she filed a 2019 return. This is a terrible system for these types of situations. Better luck to all.

She filed one a month ago but it was mailed in and they aren't processing mailed returns. You can't use that tool if you filed a paper return and mailed it in already.

Well, my Number One rule is: Never mess with the IRS, they always win. But how would they know she mailed a return already if they're not processing mailed returns? I tried that non-filers tool earlier this week and all it said was that they had already processed my 2019 tax return, so no slap on the wrist for trying.

Because they will at some point and I was afraid it might cause a double payment or something stupid that causes issues she doesn't need. So i figure when they finally do process it they will mail her a check later on.

I just tried and it said I was eligible but they didn't have my information but when I entered my information it kept saying this is not what it has on file....I'm like -_-

Exact same issue as you Dave.

I am hopeful that you and I will get ours based on our SSA-1099s despite the fact we filed a tax return as well. But that won't be happening until the end of the month.

Sorry to hear! This process is going to cause a lot of frustration. Luckily I do have to file. My SSDI isn't taxed, but LTD is.

My wife and I both got the same message. Apparently if you look on social media tons of people have that message. Since it was announced as going live on the 17th, I'm guessing it's in a version of a beta test.

I had to enter my bank account info but had to confirm my identity with my AGI from my recent tax return.

So I'm not sure what's going to happen because in the FAQ, it does say if you receive a SSA-1099 and file taxes, you can use the portal, which means I might not get direct deposit since I filed my taxes when I didn't have to! 😡
