Figured I'd post this up.

I was wanting to join them for awhile and by the time I got around to doing it, they weren't accepting new members. I had considered going the RK route, but figured that may cause more OOS issues than signing up for the CU alone would, so I didn't. Especially since I don't have any of their stores any where near me and the only way I could justify wanting one, is for online shopping. Didn't really feel that'd justify it enough.

They just recently opened up membership again and I asked on chat and email about their credit check policy. Both informed me it'd be a soft pull for banking products/membership and a hard pull for credit/loan products, while only the email inquiry knew/confirmed it was EX - chat had no idea and advised me to inquire with in a branch. I pulled the trigger tonight and opened the savings and so far no hard pull inquiry on EX. I was approved and it shows they're in the process of setting up my account/online access.

I was totally expecting to get a HP after reading about @Gmood1 & @cr101 being told the same and getting one. Was putting my boxing gloves on and getting ready for my match up against them while it was spinning. But would seem like it actually is just a soft pull/inquiry on EX now - at least in my case...and as of now.

Congrats OP!

I tried to get into RedStone and they wanted me to do everything by mail with a notary.

I applied for RK instead and was DECLINED. Nope, not even $1000 SL.

I was shocked.

Decided to give PenFed a shot ... BAM! $20k with SP.

How long ago was that? I was primarily wanting in with them, just for the savings account and to be in with another CU. Only reason I was really considering a card was because of the EX pull and my EX is like the red headed step child of the 3 majors and no one likes pulling it. Choose between the sub or 0% for 6 months on purchases, while both have the 0% BT for 6 months.

Actually had them deny my online access application, but then I tried it again while I was on hold waiting to talk to someone and it instantly went through and can now log in/access stuff. So that was definitely a bit bonkers. Still no pull after all this, so definitely think it's safe now to sign up with out going the RK route, only to sign up and get credit out of the pull too.

Congrats on your PenFed Approval. What is RK ?

Rural King Harvest card. It was for awhile the only way to open up a RedStone account, by applying for that CC that they back, as it auto opened an account with the CU as well. Since some were getting dinged for just the membership, people were going that route as well to get more bang for their HP. But it seems like that is no longer needed.

I am not in Alabama but parent has membership.

They closed online applications (for covid)

So, as I said, got approved for membership email and then another that said my online banking access application was denied a little bit ago. I then redid it while on hold waiting to find out what was up and it went through, so I hung up. I logged in successfully and saw the accounts created and money in them and was toying around on the site. Got logged out and went to log in again and was denied. Eventually got locked out and had to call in.

Got someone that honestly had me pretty close to just saying close the account. Kept arguing that I wasn't closing my browser before trying to log in with her reset pw, otherwise it'd be working. Ended up using the mobile app to do it and upon logging in, said there was no info. She then argued with me that I didn't sign the document, which I did and is saved on my computer. Then said there was no way I was actually logged in earlier, seeing what I saw. Put me on hold and came back stating that this problem was occuring because they sent me an email requesting documentation - which they didn't. I informed her what emails I have received from them since opening the account and none of them were what she was saying, including what was in my spam box. She then proceeded to basically call me a liar, but reluctantly would have it sent out again and if there was nothing else she could help me with, to have a good day.

Email came through shortly after wanting front/back of DL & SS, along with utility and proof of eligibility and to reply to the email with that? Gotta say, don't feel too comfortable responding to an email with those as an attachment, but I did it and now really regretting it. Called in to make sure and this lady I got, was very friendly and helpful and after a brief hold, advised me that they got them and I should be good to go. That if they needed anything else, they'd reach out to me.

Definitely not feeling the love to apply for any credit/loan products after this. That is if they don't end up irritating me to the point of closing the stupid thing. Here I thought I had good news for people when I posted this thread.

Monday, I am going to call and ask for a supervisor.

One of the most rude ladies I have run across in 35 years of credit.

I did not get a warm fuzzy feeling to say the least. Not bashing the lender here,

just stating that I happened to get the most rude rep on planet earth.

They all are working for low wages and probably from home due to the Covid. I would say Thank you for the help and let it go.

Sorry to be dense, but can you just clarify membership? I'm only interested in a savings account. Am I able to just join, or do I need to make a donation somewhere? I do not qualify under any of the stuff listed under "Become a Member". Thanks a lot.

That's what I believe people were suggesting and what I did, with the sustaining membership option and $5 donation. They asked for membership proof, but all I got was an email confirming the details- nothing else. So I'm not sure if that's actually good enough or not, but the other memberships don't seem like they do anything other than that.

Mean while, while I was able to log in via the mobile app and it state there was issues pulling up account information earlier, now it says my account is on hold. Feeling like the early BECU love some experienced here.

Guessing the first lady I spoke to was. Second and more polite lady I dealt with when I called in to make sure they received my emails made a comment like: "I believe she's in today, let me go make sure and find out" - which sounded like they were in a branch or something.

I apped for membership and Brighter Day savings on Wednesday and was approved over the weekend. I didn't go the Rural King route as there are no Rural King's near me and I don't want any more new credit lines showing up until I get my US Bank Cash+.

They asked me to thaw EX and Chex and to supply a big list of documents. They DID NOT hard pull EX, so not sure why they wanted it thawed.

Funded Brighter Day with $1k from my Citi DC and it coded as clothing and shoes!

Starting to disagree with this. Coming up on 4 weeks and my account is still on hold, after initially being ok. I've called multiple times each week since. Been told...

Receive a call by the end of business today - So far this has been a 2 week+ long business day!
They never got your email response and I've forwarded it over to them. They have it now and 2 business days, max.
They're still looking at it - favorite response!
They never received the email. Send all the new information to a new email address (this one I got some sort of confirmation back, at least). Wait 2 business days. - I actually got quite a bit upset & rude this time around and had asked to just refund/close it. But after I received some sort of confirmation and him doing his best to try to help, I figured I'd give it another shot.
They're looking at it RIGHT NOW and you WILL receive a call by the end of business today. If for some reason you don't, call "this" number tomorrow. - "Most certainly did NOT! And "this" number just goes directly to a voicemail box with no indication of who or what it's for.

I've now emailed them front/back of my DL and SS to 2 different email addresses. 1 of which I got a confirmation back and the other, they go from stating they received to they never received it. What a bunch of knuckle heads. Glad I only did an initial $100 transfer opposed to the $1000+ I was thinking. Really not looking promising/worth the hassle to continue this little dance with them.
