Since the thread has expanded to other transfer services, I use PayPal regularly. It takes 3 days for the ACH to be available from your bank account on file with them. But once it's in your PP balance for .25 cents you can do an instant transfer to a debit card, I use the debit card from the bank account I want to transfer the $$$ to, and the $$$ is there in a few minutes.

I'll check out Zelle, I think my BoA account has that. I never use the BoA ACH service to move money from there as it's a $3.00 fee for 3 day ACH, I think 8 bucks for 24 hours, so I can't imagine they'd offer Zelle for free.

EDIT: I checked out ZellePay.com for the list of participating banks/CUs, BoA is the only one of my accounts that support Zelle, so that won't work for me. And I'm closing BoA as soon as my direct deposit changes over, I'm moving it to a local CU, Vantage West (VW). VW supports PopMoney, but I see that's a .95 cent fee, pass. Zelle says no fees and has and Android app, so I'm going to try that. I deposited a BT check into my VW account local branch, but want most of the $$$ to go to Penfed to pay down my Home Equity LOC. VW has monthly limits on ACH transfers, so I've been using a combination of ACH, PayPal & check mobile deposits.

Had never heard of this before. I have a BOFA checking account that had zelle support and i had seen it on my cap one 360 site as well. I wanted to move money from bofa to consumers credit union and i was wanting to do it as quickly as possible.

Electronic transfer would take days, first register and trial deposits etc etc. I saw this send money in minutes with zelle on bofa page and i clicked on it and entered my email and phone and tested with 5$. I thought it would notify me via email like paypal does but i had no idea how it worked. Lol!

I got an email in seconds from Capital one!. Saying i got a deposit. I had not registered or linked cap one to bofa or zelle at all. I guess , it checks for bank accounts with zelle support and identifies acccounts with email and phone or something and may be if there are more than one checking account with zelle support in multiple banks it gives a choice as to where the money goes?

For me there was no 'you got money , where do you want it?' Instead -' 'you got money in your cap one 360 checking and its deposited already!.' Making me feel like a grandma from 1800s suddenly in 21st century. Lol!.

I am completely new to this but i am super happy i moved couple of hundred dollars from bofa to cap one just using email in seconds!. Now i just scanned the check from capital one and mobile deposited to my Consumers cu checking. In a few hours i should have the money available in my ccu checking. All of this free of cost. I am going to dig this zelle for sure. Even now after the transfer i dont know what is this zelle .hahahah!

I'm now using Zelle to move money between my USAA and Wells Fargo accounts... it's working great!

USAA gives instant credit when I do an ACH 'pull' from Wells Fargo so that was never a problem, but sending an ACH 'push' to my WF account always took a couple of days, now I can do it instantly.

In my case I have my phone number registered to my USAA account, and my email address linked to my Wells Fargo account... easy-peasy.

Here's another thread where Zelle has been discussed: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Personal-Finance/Person-to-person-pay/m-p/4993858

Yeah the speed of transfer is amazing!. Its not minutes but seconds! lol. Right now i just have two accounts with Zelle support so i am not facing any complications or confusions , not sure how it works with more than two accounts with zelle support.

Paypal onthe other hand has this feature called money in 30 minutes your card for a fee of .25 cents. Which in my experience was a lie. i tried two times, they deducted the fees of .25 cents each time and put my money transfer under review for 24 hours. its a scam. Why would i pay them a fee if they take a whole day to transfer because their system 'reviews' ? BTW paypal is good for somethings but their system acts like an AI. It decides who can add money from their own bank account and who can use their own back up fudning etc. apparently someone in some forum had mentioned befriending paypal AI by positive association. like adding money in small amounts to paypal showing the system a 'positive relationship' with the account. LOL. Capital one has already rolled out 'ENO' the AI who talks to you about your account. Last thing we want is an AI sitting somewhere judging and restricting our accounts. hahaha. Westworld next season?

As for mobile deposits , i have tried UMB, Capital one and Consumers CU express shot and AMEX serve. Umb deposits the next day while only depositing the first 200 today. Capital one held my check for nearly 7 days , Amex serve holds check for 10 days if you dont agree to pay them 5% of check for instant transfer (what a joke) , and Consumers CU is by far has impressed me by depositing my check in hours!. But Zelle has beaten all of this methods by depositing money in seconds.Like sending and receiving emails.

BTW for some reason i am unable to give KUDOS to you both when i click on the option , it doesnt update

I've seen quite a few banks adopt Zelle over the last few months including Chase, BoA, USAA, and Capital One.

Hopefully most will contract with Zelle so we can have bank transfers as fast as the rest of the civilized world has done for years.

Mobile deposit with many institutions goes through instantly (or within a very short time) and you don't need an external organization like Zelle.

I do this between my credit unions and my bank regularly, and it gets credited right away. BECU and Alliant desposits are credited instantly. Are you talking about checks or interbank transfers ?

With my Consumers credit union mobile check deposit credits usually in hours but interbank transfers take 3 days. Are you talking about a diferent type of p2p here? I bank with both Alliant & Navy but my transfers have not been instant to external banks.

From past few months i have transferred money from my navy checking account to my consumers cu checking and it always took 2 days at least. And Same with Alliant , i have moved money back and forth between Alliant cu checking and UMB and it took 2 to 3 days , is there any other process here that i am missing ? I love to know. Thanks! To me personally Zelle was the first experience where the money was moved and credited in seconds between two different financial institutions with as much time as it takes to exchange emails. If there is some process that i am missing with NFCU and Alliant i sure would love to know and use it for instantaneous transfers to external accounts. I do regularly transfer cash backs from nfcu to my consumers checking and i love to see that credited instantaneously )

I only use checks to transfer from one institution to another if i have a book of checks available but for credit unions there is a fee to order checks so i dont use checks , interbank transfer are free, at least the pulls are free.

Mobile deposit means using the bank's or credit union's app to take a photo of a check you write to yourself. Quick snap and you're done, and the money is in.

What you are doing sounds more like ACH transfer, which takes much too long and I would advise trying mobile deposit.

Navy Federal and Alliant both provided me with a large amount of free name-only basic checks. Alliant credits the deposit instantly. BECU is instant. Navy Federal normally does so within 30 or 40 minutes.

I don't know much about this Zelle or other organizations, but the fewer number of places who have a hand on your sensitive information, the better, in my opinion.

Think Equifax.

I did not have checks for my bank of america account but had checks for capital one , and i wanted money in my consumers cu account , so all i did was transferred viz Zelle in seconds from bofa to cap one and then wrote a check from cap one and mobile deposited that check in my consumers cu. So basically i moved money from BOFA to Consumers in less than an hour using Zelle and without BOFA check while normal electronic transfer takes 3 days. All Zelle needs is email and phone. And yes i do mobile check deposit whenever i have a check available.

Of all credit unions i am a member of i think DCU offers people money p2p transfer.

And andigo offers popmoney ,but alliant and Navy and also consumers cu offer no p2p transfer as i am aware of . I hope they do in future.

Mobile check deposit is a different thing altogether ,although i love to get those free echecks that you mentioned from Nfcu and Alliant. Comes handy.

Yeah 'fee happy' BOA offered zelle for free which actually was a surprise for me and luckily i had one another bank that is Capital one (for which i had check books)that supported zelle and moving money was very easy between the two . I often do ACH pull from other banks that charge no fee to get money out of accounts that do charge a ACH push fee.

Speaking of paypal ,free regular withdrawal to my bank account happens usually in 1 day , and i love this . And so far the 30 minutes debit transaction has not worked for me the two times i have tried. I wasted .50cents in fees only to have paypal 'review' my transaction to card and transfer the money 'next day' instead of minutes :/

Btw once i get my checking bonus i am closing 'fee happy' BOA core checking account via chat. I have heard many peoole successfully closed it via chat online instead of having to go to a branch.

As for p2p transfers, I am a member of Andigo cu which has pop money and they charge.75 per transaction . And Dcu has something called people pay which is free. I have only dcu account with people pay .

Andigo and NFCU both have pop money.

I so wish my main CU consumers had a p2p transfer system. They dont have free checks either. But i have their debit card and they refund all atm fees so basically i use debit card & ach pull to move money from Consumers CU

Thanks for the add'l info, DeepKc. Hmm, that PayPal instant transfer worked fine for me, it was in my Penfed account in less than 5 minutes, but I just did $10 to test it out.

Yep, that's what I do - pull from accounts with no ACH fees from accounts like BoA that charge fees to push. Thanks for the info on closing BoA account via online Chat, I'll give that a try. I was going to telephone call to try to close it, I'm sure not going to a dang branch, nearest one is an hour away.

I opened BoA almost 2 years ago, but did get a $250 new account bonus.I get a Social Security benefit payment and I had that going to a local small town bank. But they announced they were closing so I went online to Social Security in early Nov. and the earliest they could change my direct deposit was late January, so I picked BoA as they won't be going anywhere anytime soon. But I found out that if I just call my local Social Security office they can change the DD in days, just need to answer several security questions, which I don't mind at all & actually appreciate that not just anyone can call in & change my DD. .

Zelle has been taking 2-3 days for me. For example, I transfer money from Bank of America to my local bank (small town only 1 bank) Great Western Bank, and if I transfer money from BOA today(Mon) to GWB, it won't show up on my GWB account until tomorrow(Tues) as pending, and then the day after that (Wed), it will finally clear.

So I have been using Google Wallet. (free to use) If I transfer money today from BOA to GWB, it will show up in my GWB account as pending within seconds, and it will be clear by tomorrow. So much faster for me.

But they couldn't instantly verify my credit union account, PayPal couldn't either by giving them my login, smaller local CU in southern AZ. So I'll stick with PayPal, the fewer places that have my banking info the better.

And I checked out the Zelle Android app on Google Play, it get's terrible reviews for lack of security and all the personal info it collects Pass.
