I’m well aware of what NFC is.

Currently only St.Martin supports NFC and contactless payments. Which is funny because the credit card acceptance is lower then the rest of the Caribbean. You can’t even buy gas with a credit card there.

The only option would be MST in the Caribbean since they are all the little handheld portable terminals and no where officially supports any kind of mobile payment.

But if MST would work at any terminal like it’s supposed to. It would be great since I could just use that.

I just wanted to know if MST would work in a non-supported country.

Samsung Pay MST abroad

I have an altitude reserve card which gives 4.5% return on mobile wallet.

I’m constantly traveling for work to the Caribbean and spend a large amount of money there on food, gas, rental cars etc.
Some of these categories. I get better then the standard 1-1.5% return but I would love to get a better return rate if possible.

Does Samsung MST work in countries that don’t support Samsung Pay ?
Most of the credit card readers where I travel are your standard chip cards issued by RBC. Would I be able to use Samsung MST at those , say in Barbados for example ?
I don’t currently have a Samsung phone but a family member who has a S6 is upgrading in a couple weeks. I could get their old phone to use.
Thanks!

I would expect MST to work fine for the purchase (as it does here with stores that don't support NFC). The important question is then whether it would be recognized as a Samsung Pay transaction for the credit card reward. That I don't know.

ETA: your post made me check my statement! I've been using my Freedom at CVS which here at least doesn't support NFC. I have been getting the rewards for using a mobile wallet there, but don't know how that coding happens

There was an article about an interview with USB exec. He said Samsung MST would pay for mobile wallet.

I just couldn’t really find any information if they needed to be based in a supported country for it to work since it doesn’t give your actual credit card nunber

There's this technology called NFC that the rest of the world actually uses unlike here. Don't use MST overseas unless you encounter the rare case in which the reader doesn't have NFC enabled.

I hope it works for u my US Bank cash plus card is acting weird in Samsung Pay it was working normally end of Jan but now when i use it my transactions don't show up in the SP app. It goes right through but just doesn't show in the SP app. I deleted card re added it same problem. I called SP and they said they can't credit points unless transaction shows in app i called US Bank they said everything is good on there end. I wonder why the transactions stopped showing in the SP app.

Okay thanks.
I just wanted to ask.

Wasn’t sure if there was something that happened on the backend during the interchange transmission and it would only give the real card number if Samsung supported it in the country you were trying to use it in.

Your bank intercepts the token and decrypts it to match it to your actual card number, so it should work everywhere Visa/MasterCard is accepted.

Maybe my reply is a bit late,

Was traveling abroad a few months ago (Europe), Costa Rica and India and made pretty much Samsung Pay Purchases everywhere.

Yes, Samsung Pay worked pretty much 95% of the times where it was just an age old terminal (via MST).

I could rarely find NFC support in Costa Rica. In Europe, NFC was pretty prevelant. India was mixed with NFC and standard terminals. Either case, Samsung Pay worked almost everywhere.

Being a rewards fanboy, I checked the monthly statement. And yes, I got the rewards. (It is painful to check from the statement. But I did)

I have no reason to believe that your purchases via Samsung Pay in Barbados wouldnt classify for the rewards.

AR is a dope Credit card if you have Samsung Pay and it seemed to work internationally!

That being said, I heard from a few forums that SP has freezed a few terminals.
