AOD FCU

Hello all,

I tried to apply for the AOD credit card. On the application form it clearly says on the first page of application "I am eligible for membership because I work for OR am a member of...".

So I was denied membership, but I am a member of one of the companies on their list. I am not an employee. Is the only way to get approved for membership to be an employee of their list of companies even though it says "OR am a member"?

Is this a typo on their site?

I called their customer service for clarification and was yelled at by their agent and she just hung up on me as I was speaking. Very rude and awful support.

The vast majority of us are members of the affiliated organizations, and not employees of them. In fact, I don't know that I've seen anyone post here that are a an employee of any of their required partners.

It's odd that she yelled and hung up on you. My experience with the CS has been excellent. Like one of the best of all of my cards excellent.

Thank you for getting back to me. I am a member of Geico insurance and was denied. Do you know which partners are more accepted that I can become a member of and re-apply? Also, do I need to reside in Alabama for this?

People all over the country have gotten in using a NEAMBA membership. I don't believe anyone here has had a bad experience with their CSRs, sorry if you did 😕.

Btw, this thread should probably be in the applications section.

http://neaba.net/join.html This is the link for the NEABA biking association. There's a $5 fee to join and that should be your ticket into AODFCU membership. Not sure why they would deny an employee of one of their listed affiliations, sorry to hear about the stress. If their CSR yelled at you, that would be a first I've heard....most of our experiences with them has been very pleasant. Maybe someone was having a really bad day in Alabama at that time? Hmmm. Good luck with your app! Let us know how it goes....

@Anonymous Lol, I wouldn't see why it would, unless your language was overly colorful. But remember, it is a small CU in Alabama so they probably don't have many CSR's, I know of 3 myself....could be more since they got flooded with myFICO apps. When you call back maybe just try to listen to the voice....if it feels like it's the same CSR, then hang up like you lost connection, then try again later for another CSR. I certainly wouldn't want to be yelled at either, but sometimes it's just better to bite the tongue and be the better person.

I complained, but kept it professional. I did not want to burn any bridges, but I hope whoever yelled isn't the one who will handle my application

I am signing up on AOD again. When I get to the screen for employment, Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association is pre-filled as employer. What do I do here?

OP's primary focus of discussion has been in getting help resolving an inabilty to become a member of the CU. IMO it's more appropriately situated here than the Applications subforum, which focuses on applications for personal credit cards but if you alert the moderators they'll review and act as they deem is warranted.

The way I understand it is that you wouldn't be considered a member of Gieco by a CU, but rather a customer. Pretty much if it is a business listed, they are going to expect you to be an employee for memberships. Membership status is more for organizations (like NEAMBA) or charities/non-profits.

I was thinking of OP's end game which was the 3% card, along with 99% of the AOD info being under credit cards, but this works just as well I suppose.

No. IIRC there is a dropdown that you scroll through and select your employer. If your employer isn't on the list then you don't qualify for membership based upon employment. (as was noted above, you are a customer of Geico and not an employee so you can't use that as a qualifier for membership). If you are a member of NEAMBA then you can use that.

When you join NEAMBA and make your donation you get a confirmation back. As part of the membership application you will need to provide a copy of that confirmation as evidence that you are a member along with the other documentation they will ask for.

No, because your employer is not an affiliated organization. The context of this question is to establish eligibility of membership for the credit union, and your eligibilty to join the credit union is derived from your membership in NEAMBLA.

They'll figure out your employer when you provide proof of income.

Anyhow, if I apply a 3rd time and I left the employer field as "Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association", it then asks me to fill these remaining fields, so how would I proceed here?:

Please enter an amount not less than $0.01.

@coldfusion Okay so I think I did it right.

On the first page I selected "Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association" from the employers drop down menu and continued.

I eventually got to the employer screen, and I added my info there.

Is that correct? Thank you for your help
