Baxter (BCU) A good cu?

I have an approval credit card with BCU pending membership but i cant find much info on the forums about it here, its been a bit sluggish the whole process but are they a good cu? im thinking about cancelling this application but not sure..

I joined Saturday and had an account for membership and my online access was up and running even my credit score was available. I had acces right away to my savings - all was fine. However on Monday I couldn't access my account at all it was totally locked out. I've been on the phone with them everyday this week, they wanted documentation for verification which I submitted on Monday. I received no feedback that the information was received via email which is unimpressive to me being it was personal information. I just hung up with them again this morning. Still nothing. Each time I'm told it is in review. The verification is very sluggish, I don't know about the rest although I have heard very good things about them which obviously must occur after you're identity is verified. I have NFCU, DCU, and Affinity. I applied at this one because rumor has it they give very gracious limits like NFCU and a few others. Good luck.

posted this thread too soon.. they might have been good at one point but IN MY OPINION<< they are trash. Approved for a 10K CC no docs required then for a simple membership they wanted a million docs, id social utility bill then they asked for a PAYSTUB for membership. Lool. To each his own, I Dont like this credit union. For CCS you get stated income which is what they took. Never for a membership or bank acct have i been asked for POI. i dodged a bullet "IMO". this is my own opinion. Thanks for sharing YOUR opinion .

I had absolutely no issues joining them, but I did go through my employer. I never had to submit any docs.

So i will give you some DP's;

I have memberships at over 35 credit unions.

I have never been asked POI for membership, savings and or checking.

However 99% of CU's require POI for a "credit product, IE: credit card, loan or line of credit"

In response to your comment;

They may have you approved for a credit card, but will not finalize without requested documents. You may be thinking that they were requesting all those docs for membership.

I have had a ton of experience with this.

I would hardly call Baxter CU "Trash" ...

@DaisyLee They didn't ask me for proof of income. They wanted identity verification. Your situation appears they wanted it because you applied for credit, that is acceptable and reasonable to ask for especially being you're not already a member. Their customer service for me has been sluggish but within regular limits of most FI.

I love BCU, members through my husband's employer. We've been with them for years, and even when there are normal glitches in the matrix, their customer service has been wonderful. I agree with the others, the credit app in conjunction with a memership request may be the reason for additional documentation, especially in the current credit environment.

BCU(baxster) is one of the best CU's if one can get membership to them. This is one with no loopholes.

I agree calling them "trash" because the asked for documentation? You applied for a credit product along with membership, there are plenty of CUs that ask for documentation. If you choose not to comply then that's your right .

I would stay clear of BECU then which sometimes puts you through the ringer with the "fraud police" if you have issues with BCU 😂

As others have stated, that is pretty standard practice for many credit unions. I am a member of 5 credit unions and all have asked me for POI at some point or another, and some have asked for much more (BECU ended up with DL, SS card, mortgage statement, utility bill, 3 check stubs, and 2 bank statements).

Since we are all "owners" of our credit unions, we should be thankful when they are diligent.

I must've been heard echoing in their ear after replying to this post about the sluggish interactions because my account review has been completed and my online acct. access has been reinstated as of 3 pm today.

I applied on a Saturday and had full access to everything: instant membership approval, deposit accounts, and even my credit score via their android app. Monday everything was locked down as mentioned upthread so I called and was asked to provide identity verification docs ((no proof of income)). The funny thing is, a debit card showed up at my residence today, even though they froze my access 1st thing Monday morning taking all week to process the verification, they still sent it out.

And one more thing they do that I've not had the opportunity to experience yet (not even with NFCU or my daily financial institution BOA) is when you do call them they won't even speak to you about your account until they text you a verification code and you provide it to the CSR you're speaking too.

They can be sluggish yes but it looks to be for measures of protection not due to incompetence.

This is what I meant when their Account Protection team can be a bit anal-retentive. It seems most members seem to go through the ringer after signup, not that I necessarily mind since it weeds out fraud pretty easily. They probably got burned one too many times since they originally didn't use ChexSystems or a credit report to approve membership.

Once you're in (after providing documents and you pass), you're in and they haven't bothered me once since. I'd hardly call them trash either. They've given me 3x in lending what any other CU would dare to, and their PowerPlus checking features are pretty nice if you can manage it.

I wouldn't call it trash. In fact, it has been my primary FI.

Well, I am a member of more than a dozen of credit unions, including top ones like nfcu, penfed, becu, ssfcu, rbfcu, dcu and more. However, IMO no ones beat BCU in terms of fast ACH (push and receive $$ at other FI same day), mobile deposit (available instantly), their PLOC by far is the lowest I could find (5.25% at the time).

I also find their mobile app is a top notch, it even beat becu and others app IMO.

FYI, my membership was instant approve with uploaded proof of eligibility and DL

I do not mind any bank or credit union doing its due dilligence. Today, there is so much fraud going on. I have at least a 6 or more fraud emails about my renewing my Amazon Prime subscription which I do not have. I recently joined State Department FCU and applied for a credit card. I provided proof of identity (SSN utility bill and DL) and POI when I submitted the application for both membership and the credit card. No problems in joining and was approved for the credit card.

I joined on June 2 (this year) using the Life.Money.You. subscription for eligibility. They locked me out on the 5th. I had a couple calls with customer service to find out the issue. It sounds like they do NOT have a good way to verify that you're actually subscribed to the Life.Money.You. thing... after rejecting my first appeal (when I verbally verified my subscription) via email, I called CSR again, and they said I had to email "proof" of my subscription to Life.Money.You. but couldn't tell me what proof counted.

I sent screenshots of my Information page from Life.Money.You. - this did not terminate the hold they put on my initial deposit, but I was able to log in again.

My main complaint is that I had to call in to find out what was happening, and that they would only send "No" emails and not "Yes" emails - e.g. they never told me my account access was restored, I just had to login to find out.

Will likely just pull my deposit back out and let it go dormant.

Also, was rejected for CC because of recent BK (that I only applied for because they showed a Pre-Approved offer when signing up for banking).

I joined over the weekend, only opening a regular saving and the rainy day savings account. I didn't see a preapproval for a Visa or a prequalification. I'm on the fence on applying, because the rewards are not motivating enough yet.

I had someone from the CU email me and call me, and so far I'm impressed.
