Navy Federal Membership Hack?

Hello, are there any hacks to join Navy Federal?

I dont know anyone, live with anyone, or fit into any of the drop downs.

My grandfather served in the Navy but passed away and don't have access to social.

Any other creative ways to get access?

There are no legitimate "hacks"

to become a member of NFCU, regardless of what you may see on YouTube.

Your grandfather's Naval service qualifies you for membership if you can provide an estimate of his service dates along with his name.

I would STRONGLY suggest you obtain a copy of his DD214 for future use as NFCU does conduct audits to verify the legitimacy of membership and will revoke membership and close existing accounts if discrepancies are uncovered.

you can try using the Social Security Death Index (SSDI), which is a compilation of the Death Master File from the Social Security Administration. It is a database of all the deaths of people with SSNs that were reported to the SSA in the period 1935 through 2014 . You can search the SSDI online at websites such as Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org

Since 2014, public access to the updated Death Master File has been via the Limited Access Death Master File certification program instituted under Title 15 Part 1110 1. This program is designed to provide access to the DMF only to those who have a “certified legitimate fraud prevention interest or a legitimate business purpose pursuant to a law, governmental rule, regulation, or fiduciary duty”

Try locating his death certificate.In some states, the social security number is listed on the death certificate. If not look research the social security number death index and then get his DD214. When you find everything you need to join the CU, join in a branch and have the branch scan the DD214 into their database. I did that when I joined years ago. I've never been asked to verify my membership eligibility yet. Don't cheat to join Navy Federal, it's not worth it.

Gather all the information you can about him and call NFCU.

Nothing to lose.

I never provided any SSNs.

This is how I got into NFCU: My dad served in the Navy during the Korean War and later served in the reserves in the 70s and 80s. My sister was also in the Navy and my mother had served in the Army. All are deceased and I didn't have access to their records, but I called Navy Federal and told them I could provide the online obituaries of all three- my dad's service is listed most clearly and even has a picture of him in uniform. I was told that wouldn't be necessary. She opened my account.

Just call them and talk to them. I even told her a funny story my dad used to to tell about something that happened to him in the Navy. They want you to be a member. Be honest with them, though. I would definitely get proof of your grandfather's service in case of a future audit, though...

It shows that he registered for military service in 1942 and served as a private in army air corps.

It shows serial number, affiliate ARC identifier, and box film number.

How do I get his SSN and DD214?

You probably have enough for membership; call them and tell them what you have.

If your father is on your birth certificate, you should be possible to head to Sectary of State and order a copy of the death certificate. Assuming Sectary of State does that.

From there, I would ask a local military place that does recruitment and ask how to get the DD214 or try doing it online such as https://www.va.gov/records/get-military-service-records/

Just know when I signed up for NFCU (by phone) they did ask the date range of when my grandfather was in the military.
