In reviewing Chase Checking Accounts (today) I found to avoid fees you need: 1) an account with a minimum Direct Deposit of $500, b) an account with $1500 average daily balance or c) an account with a minimum average daily balance of $5000 in a combination of accounts.

Point is you will be tying up some funds to just keep a token account.

Even worse, they might someday -- through a change buried in some fine print legalese -- remove the exemption(s) which you presently enjoy.

Bottom line, Chase is not a friendly place for inactive accounts.

This is good information to know, My main checking is with DCU which is where all my paychecks go into then I will transfer funds over to my Chase account basically just for the sake of having better access to my money since there are no DCU branches locally but I almost never pull funds out of the Chase account so it would be considered inactive except for money going in. I wonder if that makes a difference?

Credit Unions are not like banks where only can use their ATM.

Yes there are no fee ATMs I can access nearby but if I needed a large sum of money it's more difficult. I once had a check that came to my wife and she signed it over to me to deposit and the same credit union I can withdraw funds from via the dcu network refused to take it so just to be safe I keep the bulk of my funds with Chase
