ChexSystems Killing Me

Any Credit Unions out there that have open membership that don't pull ChexSystems for online apps? Looking for good CUs but everyone seems to pull Chex. I was able to find two that don't but that was through numerous apps.

Because these applications were CREDIT CARD applications at CUs. In order to accept the credit card for most CUs to my knowledge you need to be a member. Entire app at that point is declined due to Chex inquiries. Thanks for the feedback.

You don't say what your problem with Chex is. Just being lol/12 on inquiries is different from real baddies. Are you good with ews?

No derogs on Chex no bad checks, negative accounts nothing just too many inquiries all this year so what's that 12/12 sheesh😩I've been using doctorofcredit but the list is a little outdated as a lot of those that didn't once pull Chex now do as well as not many of the CUs are in my area or open memebership. Pelican State doesn't pull I was fortunate to find them don't remember how I found them. But yeah they aren't listed on doctor of credit so not sure.

I assume my EWS is fine because I was able to get in Chase no problem and I know that's what they use (well co-own). Haven't actually pulled my EWS tho to see.

I just move on to the next new SUB checking account if denied. No big deal, next. There are plenty who will pay, lol.

As far as CHEX, nothing a little time gardening, won''t cure.

@ItsThatEasy Langley FCU does not pull Chex. An Equifax soft pull for membership and a hard pull for the credit card. Also Fortera FCU does not pull Chex either

SigFCU pulls Chexs but they are not sensitive to inq if there is no deragatory reporting. I just joined them with 14 in the last 60 days.

Late to this.. but these did not pull chexsystems for savings+checking applications (with overdraft protection declined) in the past 3 months:

Alabama Central CU (Does however do HP Transunion) #Also geolocked

Baxter CU

Connexus CU

First Tech FCU

Langley FCU

Library of Congress FCU

Nasa FCU

Navy Fed CU

Pelican State CU

Pen Fed CU

These are 10 I have successfully applied to in the past 3 months and none of them pulled Chexsystems.

Only 1 of them is geolocked and the rest anyone can join usually via association method. Also I expect many pull EWS but I don't check that and otherwise with the exception of ACCU, none are HPs to any bureau.

First of all, my previous post has an error in it. Fortera does pull Chex

Also @IcyCool7227 on my Chex report I also have a Chex inquiry in 06/2023 for State Department FCU. When did they stop pulling Chex?

@kiwigirl I am a Pelican State Credit Union member I joined in 2023. At that time they had a very good rate on a 2 year certificate. Now there cerificate rates are the lowest of my credit unions I belong to. I probably will close my membership with them and move the savings to another credit union.

I wanted to get an account at Pelican State, mainly because I have a lot of ties to that area and wasn't banking with anyone there.. not the best reason I know! But oh well

As to State Department FCU. Let me be the one to definitively state they do pull Chex:

Thank you for your online application. While processing your membership application we received a notification alerting us to a security freeze on your ChexSystems report. We cannot move forward with processing your application until the freeze is removed. You may contact ChexSystems at 1-800-428-9623.
Once you have removed the freeze, please notify us and we will be able to finalize the application. If the alert is not removed within 14 days of this notice you will need to submit a new application.

That was literally today for basic savings+checking with declined OP and an online app. Still debating whether to unfreeze and go ahead but I don't know if they are also Chexsensitive now? Otherwise I was planning go into the Chex 'garden' to hopefully pick up some sensitive ones like UNFCU in about 6 months. Anyway, aside from their CCs (which I have heard mixed stories about e.g anecdotes that they decline transactions very often but have high limits), for me they offer a decent HELOC 95% CLTV upto 500k. Now these days there are also a gazillion 95%/100% HELOC lenders but less that allow high CLTV caps over 250k so that's a plus point although honestly I already have enough great HELOC lenders available in my mix so if I'm being completely candid I just want to be a member and add them!

@kiwigirl Regarding SDFCU credit cards I have only had one turn down by SDFCU in a year and half that I have had the card. I have had at least 6 turn downs by USBank. The starting credit limit of $15,000 with an auto CLI of $5,000 a year later. The other thing I do if I am going to make a large purchase or traveling I will warn all of my credit card banks or credit unions. It helps to avoid the turn down problem. I usually make most of my in store purchases within a 15 mile radius of my home in Los Angeles. Now a credit card company gets a purchase for me in Bar Harber Maine where the card was swiped. The question is that the consumer or a fraudster? I usually spend forty to sixty dollars a week at the grocery store. Now a purchase for $350.00 at the same store comes through is that the consumer or a fraudster? The last one is a real example a transaction that was turned down US Bank.

I can confirm Pelican State CU doesn't pull Chex as I was able to get a checking and saving without Chex be unfrozen.

BCU does pulls Chexs through a TU supplimental pull. However, it is insensitive to new accounts.

I double-checked my report and there was no Chex inquiry, hard or soft on my Chex report either from BCU or TransUnion and I am aware of TU doing inquiries on behalf of other providers e.g Apple/GS (and I do have that inquiry). I did decline Overdraft protection which seems to be a factor sometimes.. is that possibly a difference? Or would you only see this on a TU report?

For GS/Apple card, it pulls TU telecheck in addition to CHEXS. For BCU, I am not sure it makes any difference but I do have a supplimental inq from TU on Chexs.
