Student discounts for seniors

This might interest some. First there's a story.

I've been my grandchildren's math tutor for many years. My help often follows a call at 10pm, asking for help with an assignment due tomorrow, about a topic I haven't thought about for years, if not decades.

Last year, I heard one in high school was taking a college credit math course through the local community college. I went to their webpage to get info on the course, hoping to get ahead of the problem. While there, I found that as a senior resident, I qualify for free tuition for no credit course audit. I signed up and was issued a .edu domain email address. I have since found that this qualifies me for many student discounts such as Amazon prime and most of the streaming subs. I went down to the campus and got a physical I'd card, which works at some movies and other entertainment.

Most Ohio college's offer this deal to residents. Other states probably do too.

Btw, the grandson passed with an a, with very little help.

Sometime, ask me about my collection of 15 library cards. I seldom have to wait for a new release. Most distant I have is in New South Wales.

My P2 has been taking free classes, just as you described, at our local state university campus. That .edu email address and verifiable enrollment status has given us many student discounts over the past few years. The most recent was a nice savings on a Lenovo notebook computer.

@FicoMike0 I have recieved senior citizens discounts without even asking. It is a benefit received due to my grey hair.

I would encourage anyone to download Libby app which is the library app. You can read the book for 21 days. If you need more time you can renew provided no has placed a hold on the book. You can also check out magazines as well. I have the app on my phone and tablet and you can figure the app to synch the devices. After 21 days the book is automatically returned.

Is it just having an .edu email? I've had one for close on 20 years, but only part of that as a student myself as now I wrangle, edumacate, and give them research opportunities at a University. But my school ID doesn't say student anymore.

It depends on the requirements of the entity providing the student discount. P2 says that the "ID.me" program is the most commonly requested verification tool.

I've found the libby app even better if you add multiple library cards. That way, book that's on wait at one library will pop up available at another. I think the los Angeles library is one of the best, huge collection and most of their residents can't read! Their books are always available.

Interesting. Most of the time I need to use ID.me is to prove my veteran/military status. I don't think my .edu eligibility is in there, though. I will look into that further, thanks!

@FicoMike0 😂😂 at your reponse regarding Los Angeles residents being able to read. Los Angles library does have a great selection of books. Why should they learn to read when the app can read the text to them and also type their response. Their students who getting through the school system by having an or apps do their homework for them. This is sad. Here is an example

What makes it even worse the parents do not know or care in some cases. I wonder if those who do not like to read have tried "reading" an audio book..

I've been able to get ecards at libraries all over the country. Couldn't get nymetro, but got queens. Miami- dade is good too, they can read, but not english, lol. Got Newcastle in New South Wales, but mostly Australian authors.

I wanted an Irish author, Brendan O'Carroll, got a card at a Dublin area library, but had to add the borrow box app. He does the tv show Mrs Brown's boys on britbox, it breaks me up.
